Wish List Thread for Zone revamps

Spoilers Alleged Leaks and PTR updates will be mentioned. Spoilers

From PTR updates, alleged leaks, and datamining it is seeming more and more likely that some number of zones will be visually updated in the next expansion.

Leaks primarily focus on Lordaeron (sans Forsaken influence), but what are the other zones most people would like to see updated?

Personally:

  • Forsaken should steal Naxxramas and start a new colony in Northrend. A focal point of the Forsaken story becomes freeing mindless/former-scourge undead.

  • Echo Isles should be enlarged to a full zone with sizeable capitol area.

  • Orgrimmar should be expanded to have a real port, complete with the variety of ships we see in the Horde’s navy. (Including WOD assets, Zandalari, Suramar, and Goblin vessels.) Mag’har should have a much more significant presence in the city, equipping the cliffs with Iron Horde artillery and having their own factories/ship yards.

  • Overall implementation of NPC-less buildings for Roleplayers. (Basic homes, inns, keeps.)

  • Dueling areas in capitol cities that refresh CDs upon beginning a duel.

  • Thunder Totem and Suramar given full capitol city status, with their own portals, banks, auction houses, trainers, etc.

  • I want to see Horde fortresses and encampments across middle Kalimdor. I want to feel like the Horde has rebuilt and emerged from being the “new player” in Kalimdor to the premier power.

  • This would include Tauren expansion into Barrens/Desolace/1K Needles. Lots of Kodo-cavalry and giant totems. Greater alliance and interaction amongst Highmountain, Mul’gore, Yaungol, and Taunka. Rebuilt Taurajo. The Crossroads becomes a fortress and major trade route. Vulerpa find their niche as caravan leaders and explorers. Fortified checkpoints in all mountain passes like Warsong and Stonetalon. Horde presence in Northwatch Hold. Zandalari expansion in Dustwallow Marsh around Theramore’s ruins as a big slap in da face to Jaina. Nightbourne excavations in Azshara/east Ashenvale around older Night Elven ruins.

Mauradon needs reworked. BADLY

It might be the most neglected dungeon in all of WoW.

If I dared to dream:

  • Hyjal reworked entirely. All the damage from Cata is gone, as is Sulfuron Spire. Art assets from Val’sharah are used for the zone’s flora, and the shrines to the Wild Gods are updated to be more impressive. Lastly, a new night elf capital city is built around Nordrassil.
  • Azuremyst and Bloodmyst are cleaned up. No more wreckage, and draenei architecture is now used. Also, The Exodar is updated to show the fact that it has now been fully repaired.
  • Arathi Highlands are cleaned up some. The western half of the zone is really busy with all the little outposts and locations from the warfront, so ideally I’d like for a lot of that to go away. I’d also have a revamp of Stromgarde so that it has a new style of architecture that’s unique to Stromgarde/Arathor.

Honestly both Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor need a facelift and would love personal stories tied to the zone and not necessarily tied to and expansion (but could lead to an expansion in the future, depending on story)

Both Orgrimmar and Stormwind could use a facelift considering new allies (Maghar as major for orgrimmar being industrial, Stormwind docks being improved and built upon thanks to Kultiran allies)

Give Gilneas back to the worgen and also let Night Elves influence it (or they have have Hyjal as a home instead)

Would love to see them improve upon Gadgetzan and make it more of a city than an encampment (I love what they did with it in Hearthstone)

Honestly both Blood Elf and Draenei should have their starting zones updated. Its been a long long time since damage has been done

Barrens could be repaired in some way to connect the two back together, I feel like desolace has slowly been growing more and more so less desolate and more forest like.

And lastly a couple of things I would love to see but dont think it will happen. A Grimrail train between orgrimmar and Thunderbluff (or even north or south or quicker travel) and I would love to see what more crazyness the goblins could do to Azshara (love the tracks there and what they did with Bilgewater Harbor

Most importantly, I would just love to see a lot of the damage done in Cata fixed up

I have more I dont want to take up the whole page lol

Some of the stuff I would like to see are:

  • Stonemaul Village in Dustwallowmarsh reclaimed by the Stonemaul clan and turned into a stronghold or fortress.
  • The wailing caverns updated with the Botani in control.
  • The Northern Barrens updated. The Kor’kron bases are either removed or converted into Mag’har base camps. The Saberon have invaded the area clashing with the Quilboar and Harpies, while the Centaur are falling under the Botanis control.
  • Orgrimmar updated with the Valley of Honor becoming a harbor. Mag’har tech and ogre ship working are combined.

I laughed out loud. For realsies.

I totally agree. Like, it could be a tree, and there could be a tree inside the tree.

Exodar and Silvermoon :relaxed:

Quel’thalas. It’s last update - a few light paths & some monkeying about with beginner quests - was in Cataclysm. Visually, it’s unchanged since BC.

It sounds like Lady Liadrin wants me back there soon, anyway. It might be a good time to update things so it’s flyable, while we’re at it.

I’d like to see them rework the entire old world. Leaving everything timelocked in Cata was stupid because most zones are either stuck in a neverending fight of some kind or were messed up by the Shattering and never fixed.

Like, Westfall has been in To Be Continued mode for ten years now. Players don’t even have a way to naturally do Heroic Deadmines to fight the Defias boss (who appears out of nowhere in the Rogue class hall as far as players who weren’t around in Cata are concerned) anymore.

And, from a lore perspective, if they’re going to keep pulling the crap they have been with things like Warden Stillwater being alive or dead because the current zone is what they get their info from they need to update the zones.

Also, Orgrimmar needs to go back to feeling like a town and not a military base. Less spikes, more evidence that people actually live and work there. Mag’har need a place to live that’s not a barracks, natural access to Bladefist Bay (and multiple races having ships sitting there to show it’s a hub of trade), open up the Underhold and make it something that can’t just be turned into the next Horde villain bat’s evil lair of evil. Maybe an underground market.

Same as everyone else just remake Azeroth but do it slowly, focus on a dozen zones at a time and make them real big. As new expansions are released then release these zones.
Make the zone quests something that can be logical in any expansion or timeline.

You are adding a light forged invasion? Only make a corner of the map light forged themed and when the expansion is over change the quest text to say these are a “remanent” from an old invasion.

Cataclym zones actually worked for BFA because a decade old content was relevant again with both factions fighting again. We need something similar but for it to apply in any situation rather than just a faction war.

And for goodness sake innovate the quest content as well as the single player content at lower levels. Why is the entire “game” locked behind max level a 1 single shared zone? That is stupid.

Damn, all these ideas sound way too awesome to ever be implemented.

Although if we’re dreaming, I’d just like to see more allied race content in general in the main world to really solidify them in their respective factions and give them more lore.

  • Vulpera caravans in the Barrens and beyond
  • Void Elves studying Old God influenced areas
  • Silvermoon and Exodar overhauls, Both NB and LF’d influence in each city
  • More BE/NB being wholesome elf friends content (ie: NB join the Reliquary)
  • Influences from Draenor being implemented (Gronn in Orgrimmar, Botani etc.)
  • More examples of Kul Tiran Druid/Shaman lore, more KT imagery at SW docks
  • Dark Iron and Mechagnome engineering and influence in Ironforge
  • More rude Zandalari like that hilarious innkeeper from BfA
  • Some cool Highmountain stuff RE: healing the land post Cataclysm/War

Quel’thalas: Update graphically, and explore the relationship of the Blood Elves and Nightborne further with moments of cultural/knowledge exchange.

  • Update Windrunner’s Spire with added details from the Sylvanas novel. Example: Items with flavor text: Sylvanas’ Tattered Blue Dress, Lirath’s Songbook, Alleria’s Timeworn Practice Bow
  • The Blood Elves mount of choice is strangely absent in all of Quel’thalas; include wild Hawkstriders in the environment of Quel’thalas.
  • Establish a portal to the Nighthold, where Nightborne and Blood Elf NPCs can be seen mingling
  • Re-establish the Blood Elves defenses like Ban’dinoriel and their gates

Echo Isles: Rokhan and Zekhan’s work with Talanji have strengthened their ties to Zandalar, and that influence should be seen with improved infrastructure on the Echo Isles.

  • Island cleaned up; remnants of dilapidated structures removed.
  • Make the island more lush with greenery/plant life.
  • Upgrade the designs of the basic huts on the island to show the influence/backing of the Zandalari.
  • Improve the dock area of the Echo Isles with Zandalari and Darkspear Trolls mingling
  • Add a statue/shrine to commemorate Vol’jin

Suramar: This might be a monumental task, but I’d like to see the city turned into a proper Horde hub, with any of the damage from Legion fixed. Even if it’s filled with NPCs that and do and say very little, I’d still happily take that. As far as cities go, Suramar is a masterwork from the developers, and it would be a shame for it to be left unutilized.

  • Establish a time traveling NPC that can phase you in and out of Suramar in its Legion or updated/current state.
  • Re-appropriate areas with hostile NPCs
  • Tomb of Sargeras loses its fel glow and appears inactive
  • Demon Hunters reclaim the area of Felsoul Hold in Suramar, opening up the possibility of Nightborne Demon Hunters
  • Relationship with Val’sharah refugees established, opening up possibility of Nightborne Druids

Unfortunately no major world revamp but it can always be a possibility. Hopefully we do get one because I would love to explore the world again.

Though with Dragon isle having vertical maps, if it plays out well, I wonder if other maps could get remodeled (like Stonetalon mountains being a lot more mountainous. Also either Feralas and or Ashenvale could have some tall tall trees with some treetop parts of the map to explore. just an idea but I know thats a lot of work for a world revamp

Ashenvale. People have been asking for Ashenvale to be pulled out of its Cataclysm state since Cataclysm.

It’s been 18 years now; the Gnomes need to fully re-take and rebuild Gnomeregan, not just a few tents on the surface and a single room inside.

I’m talking they retake and rebuild the entire city and rebuild and update it with more advancements they gained from Mechagon and the Mechagnomes. Have a multilayed city zone that works like an actual content zone. Much like GW2 zones, where it can be a capital city but also have actual quests and content and events and such, all contained within it(Think Boralus but on a much larger scale, parts of the city are WoW city like, and parts are WoW Zone like).

It could be WoW’s first truly completely undergound zone.

I’ve been a strong supporter of massive revamps and overhalls to major/capital cities.
A lot of us here are saying to showcase the updated Exodar, give Org a harbor, updated Stormwind some more, and all of those things should happen. However, we need to go above and beyond that. Each of those should be Suramar sized, effectively doubling or tripling the size of the cities with new/recently added assets, new stories and quests, and new places to exist. Like Boralas and Dazar’alor, questing NPCs should be neutral, with the exception of during the questlines themselves. Additionally, flying should be turned off, having people traverse a city on the city level. Even smaller. but major, cities like Theramore, Stonard, Dragonmaw Hold, Feathermoon Stronghold, should be upgraded to a current capital city size. Really put a better sense of scale into the game.

As for the rest of the wist list:

  • Northern Barrens as mentioned. Remove/reuse the Kor’kron assets.
  • Ashenvale as mentioned. Needs an updated and more open story
  • Stonetalon. Great story, but so dated and context specific.
  • Southern Barrens. Dated and Cata specific.
  • Gilneas as mentioned. Give the pups a home, with an updated city
  • Quel’thalas and Azurmyst Isles. Bring them out of BC and into the modern world.
  • Teldrassil and Tirisfal. Enough said.
  • Echo Isles as mentioned. Give it an island city treatment
  • Alterac. I understand why it was merged, but lets make it its own zone again with the care it deserves.
  • Arathi Basin. It needed an update ever since Vanilla.
  • Badlands. Seems so plain yet can have so much potential.

Really just every Cata zone that is hyper specific to the Cataclysm.

Thinking about it now since there will be a new Uldaman dungeon, I think more of the land could open up, revealing more titan architecture and that zone being more about the titans and dealing with anything else lurking in there and less of the horde vs alliance conflict (oh and Deathwing’s scar) unless its between the two rivaling expedition factions.

My revamps would be:

  • Mt Hyjal
  • Ashenvale
  • Felwood
  • Tirisfal
  • Silverpine
  • Arathi
  • Blackrock Mountain and the areas around
