C drive is failing. Need to replace and wipe my machine. Any way to save myself pain and frustration by having to reinstall the client, add-ons, my UI, and specialization loadouts? If I xfer the wow folder to an external, will it work or not?
It’s been awhile so something might have changed but I once had to play off a thumb drive for a short while. As I recall I transferred the WOW and Battlenet folders and everything carried over. In any event good luck!
Copy your addons and such to a flash drive. Thats all i got.
Yep. You can just copy the entire folder and run the executable. You may have to re-point the Battle.net launcher to the new location though.
You can do that by selecting the blue swirl in the top-left then going to Settings > Game Settings > World of Warcraft > Use a Different Folder
Copy it over to a flash. If you can reinstall with good internet, it won’t take long. All you need to do is copy your WTF and Interface folders if you can wait for a reinstall. That will save your addons, addon settings per character, in-game settings, and your macros.
You can copy the game to an external drive. The whole game.
C:\Program Files (x86) > World of Warcraft Directory > Copy to external drive.
On the new PC, download the Battlenet Desktop App (launcher) from the website and install. From your external drive copy the game back to the drive in the same location. Point the Launcher at it. Below the Install button is a link to find the game if you already have it so you can tell the launcher where it is.
If you don’t have room. Copy the WTF, Interface, and Cache files to the drive. On the new computer, download the Bnet app, click Install to download the game. Then go into the C:\Program Files (x86)/World of Warcraft directory > Retail > and delete the WTF, Interface, and Cache. Replace them with the ones you backed up.
The way I would do it is to copy your interface, wtf and other sub folders. Wow itself doesn’t write to the registry, but you’re going to have to reinstall stuff (or at least I would the launcher and game)… You can copy it to a USB drive.
Thank you!
All true, but if your drive is failing, I would just do a fresh install anyway. As much as it sounds like it will suck.
Copy your Interface folder - and perhaps your Screenshots folder - the rest can be recovered later…
I recommend installing WoW on a different drive than where the operating system is installed on. That way you can always wipe your PC and have the extra drive ready to go with all your files.
Who still uses flash drives? Use the cloud.
Just copy the whole Warcraft folder to an external drive. Copy it back to your new drive. Easy peasy.
UI and and loadouts will be saved, but add ons and the game your gonna have to re install … I downloaded wow in like 5 mins so its probably going to take more time to copy it over with sata than to download it
Cut & paste the entire wow folder onto an external, wipe the hard drive or get a new one.
1.Start the install via the launcher
2.exit the launcher
3.open program files ( x86 )
4.find the wow folder
5.drag the wow folder off the external & say yes to all files replaced.
