Wintergrasp Lag in 2022

Why is this a thing? I thought they made the crossrealm BG queues to prevent server lag and to let both factions play?

Why is the lag inside the INSTANCED battleground unplayable?? Why is this acceptable in a triple-A company?

Yeah it’s horrible. Really un-fun after the initial portion when the big clashes start to happen. The end of the BG is just running in and dying before you can register a single ability often.

I just won one too and then flew there to try and turn in a quest and it kicked me out saying the battle was still going, even though I was there when it ended like 10 minutes prior.

Whole thing is really wonky and doesn’t do the original justice so far. I also wanted to farm elementals in the zone but if it’s just kicking us out…

Isn’t it just horrendous? Like I’m playing a private server that is supported by third world donations through paypal and not a multi-billion dollar company.

It’s genuinely depressing because Wintergrasp didn’t lag when I played on Emerald Dream and Moon Guard in 2008. But I guess their technology just isn’t up to snuff in the year of our lord, 15 years later. It’s ridiculous.

It reminds me of the time they had to apologize for the horrendous lag on retail during bfa, multiple times yet made no issue to fix it. People claimed it was because of the overload of abilities the server has to tick through, but it’s clearly not it here in WoTLK where classes, trinkets and procs are very simplistic. It’s just unadulterated incompetence and carelessness and reminds me why this is gonna be the last Blizzard product I play in its entirety. A last hoorah, so to speak.

Blizzard servers are not industry standard they are many years old. Multidollar company won’t be spending money to upgrade this. Instead they find work arounds to keep this from happening. See server Qs or WG lag as examples. For Qs they want you to transfer and for pop density in an area they layer/phase you. 120v120 WG is the first time in a very long while blizzard has allowed this sort of pop density on a single layer in recent memory.

in 2008 it wasn’t this bad

It was. When WOTLK first released, WG was just a huge lag fest. At least it was on the server I played. Defense was impossible because everything froze for a few minutes and then all the walls crumbled as everything caught up.

Up-to-date PC hardware helps a little, but otherwise there isn’t much you can do about server lag.

It just rolled out and there are new things to consider, and old things rearing their head simultaneously. It’ll get better as we go.

Should be cut down to 80vs80 until they can afford actual servers.

yeah they are not going to fix this because of the money dump, so they’ll just keep it unplayable. They never even fixed the same issue on retail, so - you are correct in that regard

it just shows how outdated their servers are. other games can do this just perfectly fine. Their servers or their coding are garbage or both. Wintergrasp isnt even fun it’s a trash experience with this lag.

It’s probably the servers, because Wotlk pvp is not intense enough to have to have the server lag out due to spells and effects that retail has issues with (which was the cope for many years on retail in big pvp battles) - it’s genuinely just the servers at this point

This definitely wasn’t an issue in the original WotLK launch. At least, not that I remember… and I would definitely remember had it been this bad. My instant cast heals are now a 4-5 sec cast. It’s like watching a really bad indy stop motion film. Totally unplayable. Maybe Blizz is spending too much on diversity hiring and sexual harassment HR training these days and not enough on QC and infrastructure management. /shrug.

because they decided to jam 240 players in the same box.
this was never tested the right way on beta.

Yeah I love paying a monthly fee for content I can’t access on a whim or even operate when it’s available. Great systems.

Its their code.

A crew called ruin in retail uses grouping to work phasing angles to choke out servers in retail.

they work grouping to get what would several phases of people from several grouped servers in one spot.

the funny bit, to my eve bias, is they do this maybe squeezing in 50 people into open world pvp setups.

50 people, plus whoever else, and the servers can choke. coming from eve its not a real fight till you break 500 really.

eve does this since from its core its meant to support large scale fighting. Many of eve’s mechanics for SOV (sovereignty) content require massive fleets.

you are dropping in the 100 dreads, and the 600+ sub-capital fleet to protect them as they bash structures.

So the net code is there for this.

eve also has less graphics to push. its open space and only ships and some structures like stations get rendered. and most times you may not even see ships.

I on my snipe rokhs could possibly physically not see what I killed. I was playing weapons range math to fire from as far as I could effectively. I could be 100 km’s out from the target lol.

the dude was literally a line entry in my UI. right click, target, press f1. Boom!
