Well I dropped in to Wintergrasp last night to see if I could get in to Archavon for a transmog run in there and I found that Horde controlled the BG so no way in.
It was only a couple minutes for the next battle so I waited and started the battle yet there were no Alliance NPC’s at any of the workshops so I couldn’t buy any war machines thus I couldn’t take down the walls/gates and win the BG.
WTF hell can I do? Just wait for it to flip somehow?
Note that I am level 120, this Pally and trying to do it at max level solo.
Are there any unique mogs in there? I thought it was all PVP sets you can buy with marks of honor. I know there’s a war mammoth mount that drops in there, though.
the NPCs are out by the roads between the workshops and the fortress. you need to kill 10 of them iirc. it can take a bit to get going at first, but you can solo WG.
Oh that’s right. There’s like belts and stuff sold by the NPC in the base. I remember getting one of those for the Gilnean nobleman outfit I rocked for a while during WoD.
Soon enough wintergrasp will be a 40-man battleground. What exactly that will mean for the raid, I can’t say but I bet the results will be encouraging.
I have a hunch the old Wintergrasp will be untouched, including the raid. The “new” Wintergrasp could just be it’s own thing and separate from all that.
based on the PTR the world zone is untouched, and the ebg is a 40v40 instance. its random if you are attacking or defending and you play once, no SotA switchback.
some drawbacks to this is that the map was designed for way more than 80 players, roles may feel spread very thin. with 1/3 of the players you are supposed to have, sending people to attack towers while holding a workshop and defending the base may get difficult.
thinking about it, i wish it wasn’t randomized on whether you defend or attack, but state dependent on your last time in there. if you attacked and won, now you defend, and you stay defending if you keep winning. if you lose, then you go back to attacking and stay attacking until you win. similar to how the faction control worked, but on an individual level.
Sounds cool but I’m sure that’d make the queues unmanageable. I’m also concerned about the either you attack or you defend. You just know there will be some perception (true or not) that it’s easier to win by attacking or defending.
“#%@#$, another defense game! I’m out!”
-biffjohnson has left the battle
-shartking has left the battle
-nooblordx has left the battle
Followed by threads complaining Conquest Point gain is now RNG.
well it’s partially true, i’m much better at pushing the offensive front line in AV than I am at defending. when i get stuck on defense i generally feel like it is a harder game because of this.
Yeah but I don’t think that’d be good for queues. The game could end up being like “well you won last game, and 20 people in queue lost last game, Estimated time: Wednesday”
we could have it based on the majority in queue, but i think the fact that you wouldn’t be getting WG back to back constantly would keep the w/l tallies diverse.
or
we could drop factions and randomly mix players and just have red vs blue.(hey look blizz, this one solves all the queue problems)
random mix isn’t mercing, your toon doesn’t change, it’s players of both factions randomly mixed together in more of a first come first serve queuing system. the players on each team can talk to each other, but not the other team. so the teams have languages, but an orc, a gnome, a blood elf and a worgen can all be on the same team guarding the same flag.
well queue times would lower, so we would have less time to troll org gen chat and qq on the forums.
complaints about factional racial differences would go away as both teams would have access to all racials, so players would need to find something new to complain about like not enough WSG mid field tea parties.
same thing with complaints about faction dominance in bgs, idk what we would be able to talk about if we couldn’t constantly throw shade on the other faction, we might actually enjoy the game, it’s terrible to think about.
I mean it sounds good on paper don’t get me wrong, at least from a “gameplay only” perspective. It’d be taking a hot dump on the lore though, obviously.
Also I do recall when Merc mode was first announced/revealed in WoD they stated what they wanted to do was have your (Alliance at the time) toon exactly how it was but wearing a cheap paper Hallow’s End mask. Just like how the Merc recruiters look, a human with a paper orc face taped on.
But they didn’t go with that. That tells me that either there was some technical barrier, or they didn’t trust the community behavior without trying their best to conceal the true loyalties.
blizz already did that when they decided to retconn half of it to fit the new narrative. but bgs are not really lore friendly as it is, WSG in terms of lore was settled already, horde has owned that stretch of ashenvale since cata, not to mention that since the war of thorns the night elves are pretty much kicked out of ashenvale completely.
same thing with arathi basin, ownership of that changes every couple weeks with the warfront now in some endless prisoner exchange.
IoC is just a random island horde and alliance have been at war over for years except when they aren’t at war like in cata, mop, wod, legion, but also when they are like in bfa.
i love wow’s lore, but instanced pvp isn’t an RP zone and it’s never really been super lore friendly, it’s one area where the devs are safe to venture away from lore for gameplay reasons.
iirc the complaints where that people didn’t want others to know they were mercing.
I don’t just mean the state of the territory, I mean the “let’s all be pals and fight these other guys that are also pals for some reason”. It still means something to me that the orcs and trolls charge out of Frostwolf in AV.
I figure the next expac is going to be very Light/Void based theme, and will be another “let’s put aside our differences and sing Kumbaya while we battle the big bad” storyline.
That’d be a good opportunity to put in a new BG or Brawl with two teams of mixed faction players - one Champions of Light, and Forces of Darkness or something.
