[Windwalker Monk] MotC and SEF Bugs in 8.3

Hey everyone! With the release of Patch 8.3 there has been a new bug introduced with WW Monk. I believe this is an unintended consequence of fixing an already existing bug from 8.2 which allowed WW monks to maintain 5 stacks of Mark of the Crane (MotC) on a single target.

The new bug I believe is a result of a strange interaction with SEF and MotC where the clones will remove a stack of MotC before/after they are supposed to tag a mob which at a certain point will prevent you from gaining any more stacks of MotC during SEF leaving you effectively hard capped at 4 majority of the time.

This negatively impacts Windwalker Monk DPS in AoE effectively making SCK do 10% less damage in AoE that is almost completely out of the Windwalker Monk player’s control. But this can also have a Single Target ramifications if you are unfortunate enough on Hectic Add Cleave encounters where there is one boss that has adds spawn throughout the fight. Previously in the bugged 8.2 version you would remain at 5 stacks of MotC for almost the entire encounter if you maintained a MotC debuff on a target. In 8.3 with the new “fix” to the ability it is possible that you can end up having 0 stacks while fighting 1 target.

I implore you developers, I know you are quite busy working on the next expansion and I admire your continued efforts to make this ability work right but if you could please take some time and make this ability work the way it was intended to (which it never has in BfA) for one patch that would be excellent and a boost to morale for the Windwalker Monk Community.

Additionally as a side note: WDP haste snapshot also fails at least 60% of the time making it unavailable to use in situations where it should be to so if you fix the above bug if you could make some time to fix this issue that has plagued us as well that would be most kind. If you would like video examples of these problems please contact me and I would be happy to oblige.

Thanks for reading and hope you all have an excellent day!

I completely agree, I’ve had the same exact issue regarding my crane stacks and after speaking with several other WW monks it seems they’ve had similar problems with it. Help us out please

Do you have a VoD of this happening? I tried to recreate it over the weekend but it looked like it was working fine on Uldum while I was on dailies and when I was running bgs.

Are we positive this is happening 100% of the time or if not, what are circumstances.

I know he linked this in Discord but here are a few clips

Thank you both

Just as a written documentary of the bug.

When you gain a haste effect (most notably Fury of Xuen) from Fists of Fury, when that haste bonus drops off and the cooldown timer for Fists of Fury and Rising Sun Kick refresh to their non-hasted values there is a window of time where Whirling Dragon Punch will not be castable (equivalent to the shift in cooldown from the effect, which means higher ilvls or even having additional traits of Fury of Xuen in this case increase that window of time).

To replicate the bug all you need to do is proc Fury of Xuen and wait until Fists of Fury’s cooldown timer is reduced about 1-2 seconds below that of Rising Sun Kick assuming you’re only running 1 Fury of Xuen trait (this way you can see the transition from castable to uncastable).

Then use Rising Sun Kick to have Whirling Dragon Punch become castable, once Fists of Fury reaches roughly ~3 seconds (cooldown shift from a single Fury of Xuen trait) Whirling Dragon Punch will suddenly become unusable even though both Rising Sun Kick and Fists of Fury are still on cooldown for a few more seconds.
