Windwalker, Midnight changes

Anyone know if its being ruined with the upcoming class overhaul?
looks like Beastmaster is already ruined…someone said Resto Shaman is being gutted.
My last hopes at staying subbed are Demo and WW…really enjoy how the play now, are they getting gutted too?

This is not about DPS output or Details…
Im asking about the personality of the spec, how it plays overall, using its toolkit just in general play…leveling, for example…not about how it fares standing at a Raid boss banging out a boring rotation mindlessly for 20 minutes, because thats not my game.

For example, Barrage and Dire Beast (active) might not be top DPS output, but they gave Beastmaster personality.
Are Windwalker and Demonology losing a bunch of stuff like that where the “fun” is being stripped out ?

Trying to decide whether to start moving back over to ESO now instead of waiting.

Whether it’s still fun is subjective, and we have very few players on alpha to give their perspective. However, I’m very optimistic after this week’s changes. They really do seem to be listening to feedback and making an effort to make monk’s fantasy more… coherent, so to speak.

That said, we are also losing some thing in pruning and our damage profile may end up flatter than before (although Celestial Conduit did get a huge buff, particularly for AoE).

I dont have alpha but seems basically the same really.

A few tweaks, lost an ability or two, but fundamentally it’s the same as before.

Xuen has become a conduit only ability.

You cant have both whirling and strike at the same time as they are a choice node.

storm earth and fire got removed and replaced by an ability called zenith which is basically the exaxt same thing but without the clone visual.

that’s the notable changes.

There have been decisions i wouldn’t have made, but this weeks build seems to have tied the spec back together. Its even got some cool new visuals.

Now they just need to swap out a few deadweight talents and we will be good to go.

If you enjoy rolling around and kicking things in the face, I cant see any real reason why the spec wouldn’t still be fun for you.

I’ve looked at the alpha built, it seems they are polishing a few buggy abilities with wind walker while keeping the class mostly the same. The most radical change recently is Xuen is now in the Celestial tree, so if we choose Shado-pan, we can burst without a pet.

Lots of good exciting changes is that our abilities hit harder, and Shado-pan gets an ability where they have 50% increase movement speed once combat begins, that’s going to be fun to use, both in pvp and world pve. Also touch of death heals for 50% damage done, that’s a great recovery, though I would still like good karma back, just because of how much it can punish players in pvp, and make clever use of karma better, rather than just pop it immediately as soon as the fight begins.

Blizzard seems set on keeping slicing wind, if they fix the bugginess of the ability I’m all for it, however as it currently stands, I don’t enjoy it. It fails too often, and getting rooted while casting will break the ability completely.

To me it looks like the general gameplay will feel similar. Your main cooldown no longer splits you into buggy rainbow ghosts and there’s a couple less buttons, but the core abilities remain the same.

If you really like Xuen you’ll have to play Conduit of the Celestials now though.

The further down in the talent trees, the more excited I got. At least for PVP, it all seems like WW is going to be really fun. I lament the loss of POTK but it is what it is.

this is what i really dont want to happen, they have been doing this alot lately. I like burst, i want burst and i really hope they dont take away all of our ww monk shado pan burst. I really liked it but now, kind of seems that will be gone.

Does zenith get a cool new animation?

It looks the same as current Brewmaster’s Weapons of Order, which I think looks very good.

We have to choose between Strike of the Windlord and Whirling DP, and Slicing Winds is still here. They also deleted Chi Burst from WW entirely instead of just making it feel good to press after 13 years. So, I’ll say it’s not looking too great.

I’m not sure how I feel about the changes to our dps cooldowns. If we play shadow pan we only have one, and it’s not a flat dps increase now it’s just more critical chance and bonus damage tied to critical chance. With the RNG of critical chance it’s going to feel bad when you have bad RNG and get few or no crits and when we get a good streak of RNGs on crits everyone’s going to be crying to nerf us. Not to mention how is are cooldown going to synergies with trinkets.

I like both brew and ww changes. Monk will be my main class next season.

Did anyone else notice how we have a ton of auto attack talents now on class that doesn’t auto attack… We cast.

Talent Chi Transfer: Touch of Death gets a heal. That we can’t proc ourselves aka worthless and we would have picked up the chi orb for killing the enemy, which heals us anyway, with ToD so it is a literally a wasted talent.

Bro this dev needs to be transferred off monk. This Dev has no clue how a WW monk plays and they are letting them just make up stuff.

Between Momentum Boost and Spinning Crane Kick not preventing autos, we have just about as many autos as any other melee spec.

Those aa talents do seem pretty weak for now, but it’s mostly just a tuning issue unless they want to add more aa interactions.

Chi orbs don’t heal us, they give chi. There are also healing orbs, but they don’t spawn from ToD. Even if they did, that doesn’t make the heal from Chi Transfer useless if it doesn’t heal you to full, which healing orbs rarely do.

I don’t understand why you’re overstating these issues so much.

We get it you read Cult of Babs Discord but don’t actually test in game. Green orbs dropped from killing heal you… White one replace chi… Kill with ToD you get both Green and White ones. Hence making Chi Transfer worthless.

As to the can’t proc ourselves, It is not expel harm which we could determine when to use. It is not like impending victory which a warrior can choose to use. This will happen when the mob is literally about to die anyway. You can not control it at all. And healing after the fight is now worthless since every class gets their own campfire recouperation and WW is getting built in passive self heals out of combat. AKA WORTHLESS.

We don’t autoattack during CJL, FoF(the proc your thinking of only counts for trinkets as autos are actually not happening), SPC, Slicing Winds, that means out of all the melee specs we are the only one who doesn’t auto in our normal rotation. The only one I think who right now is warrior and that only a single move Devastate Arms or Rampage Fury and those are tied to each spec so you can’t have both.

If all you are going to do it say anyone else’s opinion doesn’t matter, mind you some of these opinions have been playing this game longer and in higher content that you ever have, because you read it on Peak of the Cult discord. You are just going to get ignored.

You get one health orb from killing something, regardless if you killed with ToD or not (if you get the killing blow, that is). That heals you for about 2% hp if you’re lucky. How, exactly, does that make Chi Transfer worthless? This is like saying that the heal from Expel Harm is useless if you have 2% leech, since the Tiger Palm will heal you anyway.

Yes, this is a heal that you get towards the end of a fight. But using ToD doesn’t mean the fight is over. Utility is limited, but it could save your life in niche situations. I’m not arguing that it’s a really strong talent, I’m saying you’re overreacting with the whole “totally useless, wtf is the dev doing” shtick.

Last Emperor’s Capacitor is, as of right now, removed in Midnight. If it doesn’t come back, you won’t be casting CJL anymore.

Momentum Boost gives you a 60% attack speed buff for 8 seconds after every Fists of Fury, specifically to compensate for the lost auto attacks. I don’t get what you mean by “Only for trinkets”. Perhaps you were thinking of the other part of the talent, the buff to Fists of Fury damage that ramps up during the channel, but that’s not what I’m referring to.

This is straight up false, auto attacks continue during Spinning Crane Kick.

This one is correct. You might lose one auto attack when you cast Slicing Winds. Are you really going to tell me that’s a significant loss?

This is why I spoke up in the first place. You’re equating “fewer autos” with “no autos at all”. It’s silly.

I never have and never will say that your opinion doesn’t matter. However, you are basing your opinion on incorrect information, so I’m going to correct you. If not for your sake, then for anyone else who might be misinformed.

I have been playing Windwalker for 907 days /played. I have also been raiding at around WR 300-400 since Antorus, and have been getting top 10% M+ score since the game mode came out. By no means an incredible record, but much higher than any casual player. Whether you have more playtime or achieve higher than that or not, I know what I’m talking about.

Look, this isn’t a defense of the auto attack talents nor Chi Transfer. They’re really weak. This is just a reminder to not blow things out of proportion.

If something is a dead talent then it needs to be called what it is.

As melee we do not use auto attacks like a rogue or warrior would. So no we are not a auto attack class these are dead talents.

We already heal off ToD so another dead talent with Chi Transfer.

Calling things bad is not blowing things out of proportion when we have only added talents that do NOT work for our spec.
