DK main here, decided to embrace the martial art class. I want to like windwalker it’s solid in single target but my AoE is awful, during AoE i know crane kick is used with dance of chi-ji procs but they don’t come fast enough. Do i need to use emperor stacks more often so jade lightning is more consistent? i only use it when at full stacks? any information is welcomed!.

This class was abandon in MoP beta. We were meant to be built around a fighting game and it was awesome. And blizzard then turned us into a pet class. Then we have been dealing with bugs that never get fixed since it launch. Our go to dps move slicing winds is worthless in pvp and can be shut down if your casting (yes we are the only melee who has to cast, spinning crane kick is a cast, fist of fury is a cast, slicing winds is a cast, crackling jade lighting is a cast, whirling dragon punch is a cast, etc) if your cc’d during it the move bugs and you have to relog into game to fix the bug. And it can be immuned aka does zero damage if they spam jump when it goes off. Any movement up or down when it hits makes it do zero damage. The zero damage happens on boss fights that move up or down in pve.
I mained monk from MoP to this expansion but went ret pally this expac because they get bug fixes overnight. No need to wait for patches when you play pally. Their is a reason the top pvp dps is ret this expansion.
Our class discord is full of trolls that instead of helping players just memes on them. It’s one of the most toxic group people I’ve seen in game since starting in vanilla. We have kids who advocate for slowing down the monk class even more. When have you seen a slow martial arts master? We have kids who love the pets. When does summoning pets say martial arts master? We have kids who kids who actually want to play as a rogue and advocate for weapon use at all times, making us a rogue without stealth, taking away the only unique thing monks have currently which is mastery of hand to hand. We are less mobile than druids and dh’s now. And when you point out how flawed the sims are for monk, the class discord will attack you and has even followed players to these forums to continue attacking them here.
Over all it is a lost identity that tried to be everything to everyone, instead of staying true to our fighting game roots.

After the 35min mark Blizzard even says we are based on fighting games. But since the beta we have gone so far away from that it isn’t a monk anymore.

So, uh, idk what that other dude was on about, but the class discord is actually pretty welcoming and generally well-liked in the community. We’re also getting a significant rework in Midnight, which at least removes a huge cause for bugs, namely Storm, Earth, and Fire. Alpha has barely started and we are actively giving feedback and suggestions, so hopefully we end up in a good state. More importantly, even if the issues can be frustrating, Windwalker has never not been fun to play in the ~10 years I’ve mained it.
As for your actual questions: it seems that you’re under the impression that you should only cast sck when you have a proc, but that’s not the case. After your short cooldowns (slicing winds, strike of the windlord, fists of fury) it is the main Chi spending filler ability.
Always holding cjl until 20 stacks isn’t terrible, but it also isn’t entirely optimal. You have to weigh target count, stacks, cooldowns, and even situational damage increases to make the most of emperor’s capacitor. Ideally, try to get used to sending it at any point between 15 and 20 stacks, that use that wiggle room to find an optimal moment to fire it. It benefits from pretty much any buff you can apply, like SEF, xuen, the shado-pan agi buff, trinkets, etc. Holding for a few stacks in order to get more enemies can also be a big increase.

The class disc is a great resource.
As for AoE, DoCJ is important, but my top two sources of AoE are usually Flurry Strikes and FoF. You can prolly send SCKs w/o DoCJ proc as filler if that ever happens in your rotation. Lightning Stacks is something you can manage, but honestly just use it at like close to 20 stacks and you should be fine. If you’re expecting a pack or adds or CDs hold max stack lightning if you want. Honestly, the biggest thing you should be worrying about with lightning stacks is not dying so you don’t lose them.
