Hey guys. I been using win 7 since ever! I been googling lots about the fact that microsoft is stoping updates to win 7.
My question is how many of you are still using win 7, and how many of you are going to upgrade to win 10.
I personally dont want to upgrade to win 10. But im little worry that i may be vulnerable to hackers. Should i upgrade?
Thanks in advance.
Upgrade for sure. It’s just better. I used to be a settler and resistant to change. But windows 10 is actually better.
end of life support for win 7 is in January probably time to upgrade
I’d upgrade. 10 is pretty good; have it on two laptops at home.
Upgrade. Suffer with the rest of us.
Any security vulnerabilities that are left unpatched after the end of life date will become a problem as malicious code is written to exploit them. It is definitely time to upgrade.
Windows 10 is a pretty good operating system once you do some tweaking to it. Just make sure you upgrade to 10 pro so you have more control over it.
Home operating systems are a hard pass.
I am not the best at computer stuff, but I always heard keeping Windows 7 was better, for a myriad of reasons I agreed with. So I did. For a time.
But I accidentally upgraded to Windows 10 quite a while ago, and things weren’t so bad.
If you stay on Windows 7, you won’t be any more vulnerable to hacking than you are now. Most of the exploits that exist in Windows 7 today, existed when Windows 7 was released.
Besides, the chances that someone wants to hack the computer of a gamer, is slim. What are the rewards? They can simply buy your password hashes on the dark web and access your accounts directly if they really think you’re worth something.
I almost said this but I didn’t because I imagine they’re using “hackers” as short hand for malware and what-not.
Good sense goes a long way and windows 7 will be fine so long as you know what you’re doing and have a decent AV program–but those will quit being updated before long too.
There isn’t any reason not to upgrade to windows 10 at this point though, especially once all of the pros and cons have been weighed.
They don’t really hack as in steal your files. They just use your pc for stuff like ddos attacks, without you knowing it.
Yes:
- Native DX12 support
- Better new hardware support
- Better kernel security
- Better userland security
- Better mitigations against Intel’s bug De jur (Plundervolt, MELTDOWN, SPECTERE, etc)
- Better general performance
That said you’ll need to turn off some of the annoyances.
Blizzard forced me to upgrade sonetime during legion. Didnt help with dalaran lag or anything really. Now i cant use full screen mode which is dumb, i dont like windows while playing.
Run windowed fullscreen. It literally looks identical.
I had to. Just do it, rip the bandaid off.
You don’t want to deal with the depressing notices from various launchers, games, programs that your thing isn’t supported.
And crashes drivers less. The Nvidia driver in particular doesn’t like alt+tab.
They can cryptolock your PC, either making you pay via ransom to get your stuff back or lose anything important
You can remove it but very difficult to any not tech savvy
People forget it’s not about you personally; but rather that you have money, and they want it. It’s really no different than getting mugged. The mugger doesn’t care about who you are, they just want their money and if you get hurt they don’t really care.
If they don’t know how to protect their machine, that risk does not go away with Windows 10. 99% of PC security is the end user’s habits.
Ransomware is easy to work around if you actually backup your data regularly. Regardless of the OS. With the cost of external drives being dirt cheap, no one should skip backing up important data. Just unplug it from your PC when you’re not using it and it can’t be ransomed. If you get ransomed, slam your PC with a format and new installation from a USB drive.
I would download win 10 pro and use your win 7 key with a fresh install and it should accept it.
You can use a program like Belarc advisor to tell you everything about your PC. It’s free too.
(sneaks in and whispers get an Apple before sneaking back out, leaving a little tray of cookies of course)
