Windowed mode doesn't remember window position

I play in windowed mode on an ultrawide screen and put my WoW window on the right side. I do the same for pretty much every other Blizzard game. While the other games open in the same position I left them in, WoW always opens in the dead center of the screen, so I have to reposition it every time. It does remember window size and setting (i.e. it doesn’t switch to fullscreen or anything), so I don’t have to change anything else, but the position itself always resets.

I tried a few troubleshooting steps as suggested, like changing the Secondary Logon Service in services.msc, and changing the WoW folder settings from read-only, but neither of these fixed the issue so it was suggested I post here.

It’s a minor frustration but I’d love WoW window behavior to mimic that of the other games.

I too want this to happen. I play on a 55" tv and have a custom window size for wow set in the config and place the game window in the upper 2/3 of the screen and use the lower 1/3 for launcher/discord/firefox/etc. It places the window in the exact middle vertically every launch. Please put configurable anchor points in the config file. Thanks!

I found a solution.

For windows 11 there’s a Microsoft Store app called Powertoys, (made by Microsoft) and one of its features is called FancyZones. You can use this to customize dividers for windows to snap into. Works perfectly!

There’s multiple YouTube videos on FancyZones which can walk you through setting it up.

Hope this helps.

Just found that FancyZones also has a checkbox option thats “Move newly created windows to their last known zone.”

Wow now opens exactly the window size and placement I want. Thank you, Microsoft!

This is excellent. I’m still playing around with it but it looks like it’s doing exactly what I’m after. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
