Win10 2004 update and SL

Will people (like me) who cannot install that update suffer in SL? Will it cause BSODs and such? RayTracing already needs that update, so I wonder if it’s possible that any other settings will require it, ultimately stopping those unfortunate souls from playing. What do you think?

I don’t know - but this is probably something that you might want to put into the Technical Support forum and hope for an answer from blues.

Currently on RTX stuff is requiring that build of WIndows 10, everything else is working on older builds. This could of course change before SL is released.

Curious, why can’t you update to the 2004 build?

just noticed it’s available and i am on 1903.

Gonna roll the dice on 2004 and install it! Wish me luck!

I’m curious… why?

Lol, good luck Sal! I’ve installed it on several (ancient and new) systems without issue. I avoided it back when it was first available, until they worked the kinks out of it, but it seems pretty solid now.

I’ve only really done windows update when forced to.

It’s at 23% right now.

Posting from my Pixel 3a XL LOL

I tried 5 times…

1- Windows Update : Failed to install. error 0x8024000b
2- Windows Update : Failed to install. error 0xc1900101
3- Windows Update : Failed to install. error 0xc1900101

Then I unplugged everything but monitor, mouse, keyboard and modem.
Uninstalled Malwarebytes.

4- Windows Update Assistant : reboots to 1909, no errors no nothing.
5- Windows Update : Failed to install. error 0xc1900101

One thing I noticed is that in Device Manager, my monitor, keyboard and mouse aren’t listed by name. I think they’re all using a generic windows driver (HID Keyboard Device listed three times, HID compliant mouse, and Generic PnP Monitor).

So there’s one option left and that’s to reinstall windows with a bootable usb. But I’m afraid I’ll just get the same errors and this time I won’t be able to do anything anymore after that.

On 2004 and posting from that machine. Doesn’t seem to be having any issues…yet.

What did they change from 1903?

Have you looked at the support article for error 0xC1900101?

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10587/windows-10-get-help-with-upgrade-installation-errors#section-2:~:text=0xC1900101%20Errors

It looks like there are a few more suggestions such as removing third party security software, clean restart, etc.

Teleportation … cool feature …

I haven’t been through all these steps, no. I’ll work on that though. Thanks.

well sh*t

it reset my AMD graphics custom profile. now i gotta redo it all

Teleported them … see, told you so…

Seriously though, that sucks. The only thing it appeared to do on my main system was reset to the default color palette on my third monitor.

Eh, wasn’t too bad.

Had to re-apply profile, which was not that big a deal.

I did have to recreate my custom refresh resolutions. I play FFXIV with GShade, and since its a lot more GPU intensive, and since there’s no specific FPS limit in the game (and it ignores driver caps) I created a 1440p/85hz resolution (in between the 60 and 100hz options) to keep GPU thermals and noise down, and because 60fps makes my head hurt :frowning:

EDIT: Seems 2004 fixed my “Borderless windowed” lag problem. Used to be, I would have FFXIV in borderless windowed on my game, and if i played a video on my other display, it would lag the game. I had to swap to “fullscreen” to get the game to not lag while i watch videos on my other screen.

After the update, I have it back to borderless windowed and videos playing on my other screen without issues.

Makes starting programs much easier without full screen flickering issues now.

I THINK what was happening was since my other display’s refresh is 60hz, when i did borderless fullscreen, it would default my main display to 60hz too and make it feel terrible. Now it seems to have independent refresh while in that mode.

Ooooh! Maybe I can finally use G-Sync on my Freesync compatible monitor! I haven’t been able to use it due to flickering. I bet you if I sneak on WoW I’ll get a work call…

Interesting because my main monitor is 144hz and the other two are 60hz.
