I really like the two recent WoW novels (Before the Storm, by Christie Golden, and Shadows Rising, by Madeline Roux) but my favorite WoW novel so far is Illidan by William King. I know getting an answer in this forum about something so specific is a longshot, but I was wondering if Blizzard has any plans to collab with him again for another WoW novel?
Illidan was really good, and I felt like the dark tone of the novel, as well as the writing style of William King just meshed really well with the WoW universe.

Not entirely on-topic, but I recently finished BtS and wow, I cannot begin to describe how boring it was. Holy hell.

Unfortunately, they don’t usually announce who’s going to be writing the next novel until they announce the novel. They don’t really tell us about their plans in advance.

I really enjoyed Illidan. It was a breath of fresh air and did a decent job of explaining Illidank coming back.
Also Maiev is basically a night elf Doomslayer now. As she should be.

If you thought Illidan good, you should really check out some of the Warhammer 40k novels William King wrote. He’s easily one of the best authors I read.

Despite the quality, the Illidan novel unfortunately didn’t get the buzz that Before the Storm (somehow) or Shadows Rising got, so while he’s probably on the short list, Roux would probably take priority for any non-Golden novels. I’d be happy with more of either over more stuff like BtS regardless, though.

Why do you like Before The Storm?
William King, despite some minor blunders (Nelf from Eversong Woods), actually seemed to do his research. I feel like he played through WC3 for the Illidan Novel, because what a breath of fresh air is was to see Night Elves and Nelf character portrayed accurately. No more sexist Richard Knaack, and bland Christie Golden.
I don’t even like Illidan as a character, and yet his Novel is my favorite WOW Novel… That speaks volumes, I think, and proves that Nelf fans are not difficult to please, we just ask our race be portrayed accurately.
Read like 2 pages of roux’s book at the library some month ago and it struck me as more boring than Golden.
Her prose is pretty awful. I miss King.
So far I’m finding Roux’s book infinitely more entertaining than Golden’s. But I’ve only just started and it could be because the story has other characters besides Anduin and Sylvanas.
Tho nothing compares to the Voljin book, to me. That was just unreadable.
I actually liked the Vol’jin book. It felt fitting for a Pandaria expansion.

I am jealous, truly. I like Voljin and genuinely expected to enjoy the book.
King was the best author we had.
Each book after Illidan has gotten progressively worse.
It’s not surprising King is a good Warcraft author, as he spent years writing for Warhammer.
