One of my best buddy would like to try WoW for the 1 time. He really dig DK, when he will be able to log at the same time as me I will be able to help him out but most of the time he will play solo due to his work schedule. I was wondering if DK will be a good class for him, I was wondering if DK can do Torghast with relatively ease so he can grind his legendary and world quest. For the rest I will help him out when we can play together.
frost dk is a easy spec to pick up and play, and if he is willing to learn blood he should be able to solo most content. I think dk is a good class for solo play.
I’d say yes, but do so with discretion because some of our specs excel in certain areas more than others.
Blood is one of those tanks that healers seem to hate, especially those who don’t pay attention or know anything about us Blood DK that is Runic Power. Blood Dks have a very weird conundrum of micromanaging your runes, healing off damage taken and have some neat utilities such as a mass grip or have a legendary to make your healer’s love you instead of hate you. Blood has better reception over the months now thanks to the leggo buffs.
Frost is okay, PvP Frost is alright also. They’re not great but they’re not terrible. They’re just decent. It’s the most beginner friendly dps spec of the three and if your friend really wants this spec to make it work, he/she might need a lot of research of stat, talent and resource allocation to make the spec great in ALL contents (not just PvP).
Unholy is great in PvE but not so much in PvP atm unless the meta favors rot or dampening spec. They don’t have the great burst like Frost does but does great constant damage. They also have great area of effect, cleave attacks too. While Unholy deals a lot of damage, with great damage comes great maintenance: you need to know how Festering Wound work, you need to keep track of your Virulent Plague, you need to micromanage your minion, juggle GCDs and CDs alike, etc. etc. etc.
These are DK specs and our state in the nutshell. Would I recommend your friend? Well it depends on the content you’re doing. But if you don’t like Unholy and don’t have enough time investment to make either Blood or Frost work, I would not recommend the class. Otherwise, yes. I would recommend it since we are one of the stronger melees in terms of damage output (Well in PvE anyways :]).
I don’t mind DKs. I can put wings on them at the beginning of every pull and leave them alone. It’s dumb dps and tanks who position poorly and ignore mechanics I don’t like.
Pretty fun class IMO! I recently returned and did all my stuff solo on this guy and had a great time doing so
I would argue DK is probably the best class in the game at soloing content.
Dark succor is extremely powerful.
I really think blizzard should add a default visual proc for it as a lot of people don’t track it.
It’s also easy to get group invites for content because Unholy is meta in raid and we have AMZ and battle resurrection.
Yes, My main is a DK, and almost always run solo. I haven’t had a problem taking down anything in SL.
As a Blood DK (around 200ilvl) he will be able to solo almost all the world content and Torghast lvl 8 will little issues.
Frost and Unholy are both viable in PvE and PvP with Frost being the easier of the two to play.
Tks all for your replies and advices
Historically id say yes, DK has historically been the best solo class.
However it took a steep shift in Shadow Lands to being the worst solo class.
I would like to blizzard add some mobility to DK… they’re slow as potatoes
Overall I would reccomend
I recently made it a point to level every tank to cap - that being said I prefer Blood DK for the level of agency that you have over your own survival.
Demon Hunters do more damage - but need those soul shards to keep up; if your fury generation drops off; you have a small amount of cooldowns to survive the drought - your forced to switch to using your sigils to buy yourself time.
Paladins do more damage - but I find that it can get pretty boring as your waiting for shield procs and generally when dealing with heavy hitters your WoG might not keep up with keeping your alive and so using your holy shield charges becomes somewhat distracting.
Warrior is ok; but nothing really special going on there - IP is your HP bubble and aside from that Warrior has limited healing in the form of (I vaguely recall its been awhile since I dusted off my warrior) Die by the sword or something like that.
Druid is really versatile; but to me it felt like I was just using frenzied regeneration/ironfur and waiting for something to go wrong.
Monk was fun; the stagger mechanic helps offset spikes and purify is essentially healing your HP deficit - You also have celestial brew and healing balls; nullify harm is rarely used it seems as is vivify while tanking (obviously)
Blood seems to be a good middle ground - just hate our current threat.
I struggled a lot solo levelligg with a frost DK. IDK if I was just playing it wrong, but I had to stop and eat after every 2-3 kills most of the time. Didn’t try Unholy, but I probably will for Shadowlands levelling.
Tell your friend that if he wants to play solo, another game might be better suited. WoW, and its community, has been quite unfriendly toward solo players, and insist on experiencing any serious content as a group.
There is content for solo players, but you will reach a very low ceiling where the game will rapidly degenerate without that group.
