There have been subtle hints along the way for a console port coming. Let’s take a brief look at them.
Controller support added in Shadowlands.
This one is a little on the nose, but did let players use controllers.
Beginning of UI revamp added in Dragonflight.
The edit mode, the revamp of the minimap, other buttons, and ui elements. This has been an ongoing project.
One Button Rotation added in The War Within.
Another one a little on the nose, easy to map to any controller.
Blocked addons and revamped combat UI added in Midnight.
The most useful of addons have almost always historically become backed into the game at some point over the years. This is more or less another form of that. This also helps level the playing field for those without addons, like console players would be.
Microsoft
While these initiatives started under Activision’s umbrella, they are now owned by Microsoft, and the Xbox is even closer than ever to it now.
So is a console port no longer a matter of if, but when?
