And the CD key will be compatible with both US and EU servers? Any ideas?
11/08/2018 11:33 PMPosted by HolylrSo, when I was in USA, I bought the original wow CD as a memento, with authentic CD key. It was few years ago, probably during Wotlk. Will I be able to just use that and pay 15 dollars a month or I have to purchase BFA?

No based on what was said so far with the 15$sub you can play Classic and content up to Legion you only have to purchase BFA of you want to play it.
As far as the cd's you bought they will never be nothing more then a momento.
Edit: And no, if you bought the cd's in US then most likely the key code is tied to NA servers and will only give you access to those if you choose to use it.
You won't need to buy BfA. Anyone who picks up WoW as a brand-new game gets everything from Vanilla to Legion. You'll likely have a download to patch up to Legion if you use the copy of the game you bought.

But the CD key works right?
You need the $15/month subscription, and that gets you access to both retail and Classic. If you don't own BfA then on retail you can only play up to Legion.

It doesn't matter. You can make a new account for free, pay your $15/mo subscription, and play classic.
Download Battle.net (likely already done?)
Go to Blizzard's site and make a free World of Warcraft account.
Add a subscription to that account.
That's it.
No initial fees, no current expansion required.
You just pay the 15$ sub fee and you have total access to the game up to the end of Legion content. With this account you will be viable to access Classic when it comes out.
As for the CDs. They are a memento. Keep them for that or sell'em. I'd keep if I were you.

I do not believe so. I am not entirely sure. Mostly because back then you had to buy your account. Nowadays the account is free, it's the access beyond lvl 20 that is not.

What they said.
Even if you wanted to play now, since classic isn't out, you could make a new account pay the 15$ sub and enjoy WoW from 1-110 with no additional purchase.
The only thing I can say is that, assuming you are not from the US, if you wanted to play classic or retail kn the US servers I would create an account with those CD keys seeing as how if you made a new account where ever you are from you'd presumably be region locked otherwise
Several months ago I tried to create a new account with some guest access key I’ve found, and got an error that it’s already been used.
So, most likely, even original guest access keys will work, if they aren’t already used.
Active sub is the only requirement regardless of purchase level, BFA or otherwise.
They’re unnecessary. If someone wants to create a new account, they only need a BattleNet account (free) and to go to the WOW page and click [Install]. That creates the free Trial, on which they can make an account and play up to level 20 on characters.
If they add game time, it converts automatically to the full game up to Legion content and ability to play up to level 110 characters. If the game time expires, it reverts to what is called a Veteran Trial.
BfA is unnecessary for WOW Classic. It should only be purchased by someone who wants access to the 111-120 BfA content.
And will it give them that free game time that you used to get when activating WOW?
Thread was dead, also no you can make a WoW account for free. Just pay sub and BAM you have access to everything but current expansion.
Not sure, it might be too old to be acknowledged.
Back then guest passes were for people to test out the game, now they can test it out to lvl 20 for free.
If it is a Starter Account (trial that has never been given free time in the past), purchasing the BfA Complete Collection will give the free 30 days of game time.
If it is an older account that has, at any past point in time, received the free 30 days (which only came with the base, vanilla, WOW), then it only allows the expansion to be bought, which costs less.
and the 30 days are included in that free?
Weren’t there also some special guest passes with full access, not level 20 trial? Or maybe some promotion or something? I recall finding some key and trying it, saying it’s “used”, not “invalid” or "expired " or anythinng.
will you purchase it for me everyone who creates that free account? We all know that Battle Chest has dropped to the same 15$ as the subscription, so stop trolling.
Random fyi about guest passes: when it came to server queues you went to the back of the line. In fact, that was the only time I had long queues in Vanilla. A paying customer always got priority over someone on a guest pass in the queue, so you’d almost never advance. I remember being confused why my number in the queue was going the wrong direction until I figured that out.
