Talent trees don’t match up with Blizzards current development with the game.
I’m all for adding some aspect of mana management for things. I’ll just never be onboard with core rotation being dependent on it because having to wait isn’t fun. I hate being energy starved for example for much the same reason.
Maybe something like “core” abilities use mana as buff? If you have 1000 mana and cast Fireball it does 5000 damage. If you’re OOM and cast Fireball it does 2500 damage. That kind of thing. I mean I guess this isn’t far off from wanding while OOM but for some reason I think it’d feel better.
I just remember doing Karazhan and while learning fights ending up OOM while watching the warlock still able to play and thinking “God this sucks”.
I haven’t played arcane for over a decade but my understanding is that this is essentially how arcane works.
I miss the trees so bad. It made your character more complex; you could adapt your build to your play style. Even better you could switch things up and try different builds for different scenarios and situations. I would love to see the return of talent trees - Personally I think it would bring back some of the older players that left and boost the server populations.
I’d love to either see the return of talent trees or another redux of the current talent system. I think they need to do something that marries both worlds?
IE: Talent system redone!
All talent rows now exhibit a theme with each respective spec despite your currently chosen spec.
Example: You are a Holy Priest. But your first talent row exhibits a theme of “1 Shadow Talent, 1 Holy Talent, 1 Discipline Talent” that you can freely choose between at each talent tier!
This would be a huge effort, but I think it would be worth the time investment. The current system is as stale as month old bread at sea.
Or just do both.
I would erase my characters and start them all over if talent trees were re-implemented. Their removal was one of the two game reasons I quit at the beginning of MoP (the other was the addition of account wide achievements).
In all honesty, first we’d have to rework the talents themselves so it’s an actual choice, right now every class has at least one row per spec that has a talent or more that’s just pretty much pointless to pick…
First: rework the talents back to MoP/WoD versions (some might be considered “too” OP in their MoP variants).
Second: have the talent trees be cross spec to choose what weapons you wish to use (think a tree with our current layout but 9 viable choices instead of 3 with 1 being useless per tier).
Then all talents would be viable with a wide range to choose from.
Sorry to break it to you bud, but most talents in today’s trees are pretty pointless too and never used. They should do away with talents, period, and just give us a basic set and roll with it. I don’t understand why they even give us choices, when truly honest we don’t have any.
THey kind of already did bring back talent trees but made them basically all passives to go with our regular talents we have now .
But would rather go back to the old trees preferably the Cata one.
100% false if you are referring to how the talent tree system was. There was no real experimenting because if you didn’t follow the cookie cutter spec then you wouldn’t be welcome in raids and at times end game dungeons. Not only that, how can you experiment? Example as a mage. You had to pick frost/fire/arcane first. So how exactly will frost talents help a fire mage? It wouldn’t unless it had like “increase crit on all spells” like you would choose then. I believe Arcane you had to spend 2 points in for something that helped all spells/specs.
But overall, you couldn’t mix and match and if you did then you hindered your dps. So if they ever brought back a talent system, it would need to to be completely different but I don’t see them bringing that type of system back. Not sure if Rift still has that system but wow (wow as in the exclamation and not as in WoW the game) it was insanely overwhelming with all the options you could do. I know people want options for talents, but that was insane.
I personally like how this system is but still needs work since plenty of the options we have are uselss and rarely used by anyone.
Didn’t we just unlock every option on the weapons? I don’t remember having options but just unlocking them all in time IIRC. So kind of different from talent trees.
As much as I hate borrowed power, you would have to be a fool to think talent trees had more VIABLE customization than the talents and covenants we have now.
