You can have both on the pve servers but not the pvp. If factions are imbalanced they will lock creating new characters on one of the factions.
Hmm, okay. I remember when I tried WOTLK classic you could have characters on both sides on a pvp server.
if you log on era right now and go to a pvp server you can try it for yourself. It won’t let you, I only know because I tried it yesterday just to confirm
