Will to play Battlegrounds waning

Activision Blizzard seems to be in a real rut since the Microsoft purchase. CoD and Diablo are hot garbage. Never played Overwatch so can’t comment there.

WoW … appears a mess. Pity the poor programmers who are probably working with some Frankenstein monster with 20 years’ worth of code layered every which ways. The redundancies can’t have helped but you can notice the outcomes all over. Systems breaking, poorly designed features implemented and fixed in reverse, if at all.

PvP is still kinda fun just not sure about the overall project. Can imagine Microsoft bean counters are running the show now, with zero experience of the actual game. We’re all just subs to them. Short term fixes and cash grabs will win out over long term investments to keep upper management happy while the foot-soldiers slug on with fewer resources and less ideas. That’ll result in a death spiral of bad decisions until the whole thing falls over suddenly.

We’re on the cusp of a new generation of AI driven titles where the NPCs can hold a decent conversation and probably even a grudge. Not sure if investing more time in a two decades’ old title is worth it when it’s just a tiny part of a behemoth company who will axe it without hesitation if/when the economics don’t add up.

Not a quitting post. It’s still a fun game, if kind of mindless, sustained by the socialisation. Keen to hang around and see where it leads in the short term until inevitably getting addicted to something else, just losing faith and open to finding that something else a bit sooner.
