yes i do remember u get a decent chunk for wins. obviously only viable for the 16+ 26+ 36+ because people will just roast you for being too low otherwise. It is a good way to take a break from questing once your at the end of your level bracket
BGs did grant xp. Just not for actually winning or losing. Alterac Valley has almost a good dozen quests to do inside. These give the AV trinket and some good weapons. Furthermore, BGs give tokens. These tokens are then turned in for either gear at the officers barracks or can be turned in for additional honor points. The turn in for honor points also gives xp.
I went from 55-60 doing BG token turnins back in early 2006 during Vanilla.
The trinket came from a quest and upgrades came from different rep levels. The weapons came from a vendor with exalted rep.
This was changed in the TBC update to allow them to be used to purchase gear - before this they only were used for the turnin quest.
[Patch 2.0.1] (2006-12-05): Marks of Honor earned from battlegrounds are no longer turned in for reputation or honor. They are now used in addition to honor points in order to purchase rewards.
3x tokens for a single bg, or a bigger amount of honor for marks from all 3 bg’s.
This im not 100% certain of, i dont recall that it did but i was level 60 and it did not grant gold after the first turnin so no xp to gold conversion was in place.
Patch 1.8 data when they were introduced them and it doesnt say anything about xp. Alsdo the patch that started twinking.
[Battlegrounds]
Each Battleground has an individual turn-in quest associated with its related victory/loss condition. Upon completion of a Battleground, the winning side will be awarded three Marks of Honor while the losing side will be awarded one [Mark of Honor]. Three Marks of Honor may be turned in to the associated questgiver for [Honor points] and faction increase. Should players complete this turn-in quest, they will find that the bonus Honor Points for completion are twice that of normal turn-in conditions (individual).
Players of levels 10 - 19 will now be able to participate in the battle for [Warsong Gulch].
I could swear I remember needing tokens to buy gear as well, but the fog of time has made my memory hazy on that one.
This however, I am 10,000% sure on. I went from 55-60 turning in BG tokens. It was all I did. I did nothing else during those levels except pvp. This was during the summer of 2006.
TBC prepatch introduced this, along with not needing ranks to purchase the gear. I leveled TBC with HWL 1h axes because of this - only ever made R11.
Thank you and confirmed from comments on wowhead.
“Maybe stupid to post this, but if you hand 3 of them in you get 2250 exp, 55 reputation with silverwing and 228 honor points”
"you not always get 2250 exp For now I get 1500 exp (35lvl druid)
about rep. yes, I agree
but I didn;t know that you’re getting honor points for this! O_o
The battle masters have a repeatable quest to turn in 5 battleground marks.
The quest will give some XP and some Rep for the Battleground faction.
The XP is ‘ok’ at the beginning of the bracket. Maybe 2% of a level.
Towards the end of the bracket the xp is dismal, probably close to 0.1% of a level.
During vanilla a leveled a rogue almost entirely by turning in BG marks from level 15 to about level 55.
You do not get xp by killing players or completing BGs. Only turning in the marks. If you get booted or DC’d from a BG you get no mark typically.
The token turn-in quest…I think it did give xp (along with rep), though on private servers, only the first turn-in did and subsequent turn-ins did not. Kinda foggy on this.
Three Marks of Honor may be turned in to the associated questgiver for [Honor points] and faction increase. Should players complete this turn-in quest, they will find that the bonus Honor Points for completion are twice that of normal turn-in conditions (individual).

Its a quest for either 1 or 3 marks. There is another quest for 1 token from each bg. This rewards firstime
