Yeah, I know, some people will say that is what official is, but I mean retail retail. I think it may not be as easy as some imagine, especially taking some Chromie time paths. While they are all nerfed pretty much, the reward gear is outdated in most x-packs and can be problematic as you get about level 40 or so if you haven’t done enough BFA or SL to get the better items.
Retail hardcore would definitely be more about end game. Trying to do m+ and get KSM or trying to clear heroic raid for AOTC
Doing those without dying would definitely be a challenge.
I would probably try it Atleast.
It would actually be extremely smart of them to do. The way hardcore works is that you must know what you’re doing. And you can’t really learn to become a good hardcore player by just playing hardcore alone. You need to be able to learn the game in SC mode first. Otherwise, every time you get to a new area you haven’t seen before, you won’t know the best strategies and how to go about things. It would take you decades to learn what you could learn in just a month of SC.
What this means is that hardcore players are going to want to spend a lot of time playing softcore retail all of a sudden if HC is introduced.
Which means a lot more money, and retail engagement metrics for Blizzard. So it would make a lot of sense for them to do this.
It takes serious skills to die while levelling in Retail - at least did last I tried - so no.
Or as Flashock says, endgame related HC.
Either way, no thanks to anything Retail.
Is it that bad? That’s unfortunate.
If you level by non-combat dailes, that could be true, but otherwise not even close to truth. Mobs scale to level so there are no green mobs to grind. Depending on zone and your level, they are either skull, yellow or gray. Mobs at every level have the ability to stun block your character multiple times per fight and in BFA zones, there are several Kul Tiran mobs that will haymaker you into a swarm of stuff. Plus, by certain levels, if you haven’t got your I-level up to reasonable level, it gets extremely hard to fight even a single hot mob. Looms help at low levels but unless you upgraded them, not very long and Legion artifacts are worthless except for mog by the time you can get one.
Yet the essence of the HC challenge is much more about the Journey.
Perhaps Retail would actually benefit from the more meaningful content as you level, however the difficulty of retail is abysmal. I Queue’d for a dungeon with a guild who left halfway through due some RL issue and finished the rest of the Dungeon myself as a Paladin Tank.
Not very HC…
Retail is super ez mode. I doubt there will be retail HC.
I could see them adding BC and LK HC.
The “journey” of leveling in classic is because it takes 1-2 months.
Retail leveling takes 1-2 days, so yeah if you wanted a “journey” it would have to be end game gearing up enough to do raid or something.
I don’t think making retail leveling slower or harder is necessarily the solution.
Some would be nigh impossible. Like Shadowmoon burial grounds and the one-shotting ghosts.
There can’t be a retail hardcore. What would all the Demon Hunters do when they are incapable of reaching max level?
The upside of scaling: You never outlevel a zone.
The downside of scaling: You never outlevel a zone.
Have you leveled in retail? It’s actually very difficult to die there would be no challenge.
what a bite in the rear to die to Goldtooth at level 60
you can’t die in retail anyway unless you do lfr or m+ lol
Retail leveling is extremely easy, you can’t die, you’d have to actually try to die. So… kinda pointless to do that on retail.
All hard content on retail is at max level.
I hope they do it, fresh retail server with one wipe would be sweet
Retail ain’t about levelling. They floated the idea of ‘pristine’ realms pre-classic but idk if they’d do to well.
People who play retail do it for difficult endgame content, collecting or Roleplay. Hardcore’d struggle to fit in with any of those bar maybe the former and honestly I think retail endgame is too difficult for that to be fun.
Also with regards -to- levelling, scaling kinda screwed stuff up where there’s obscene difficulty spikes, especially in classic dungeons, for no apparent reason at certain level brackets. As well as the fact that a level 10 in scaled content is a god while a level 30-40 charcter is a wet noodle.
You would have people daily questing their way to the top. Fishing, cooking, etc.
Retails goldtooth is easier even. they move him to the top of the hill over the mine. there’d be no respawn fun in the mine.
He is on the surface for the easy pick off. He’s not so bad…classi its the oh crap, where the hell did these 4 kobolds come from. He is fine, its the respawn “adds”.
That was one my “so this is how elwynn was different in classic” moments. I was looking for him on the hill at first.
