After the end of WoD and the end of Legion, Blizzard are never going to cut an expansion short again.
And it’s not like 9.0 being longer than usual cuts into the standard expansion timeframe. People are just too used to the standard model of X.1/X.2 patches being like 6 months long while X.3 are usually a 12-14months plus.
I think there will be another patch, probably by the beginning of next year to close out the expansion. They said they were going to add tier sets back, and they still have to conclude this portion of the story…
the real question is…will the artists be able to fix 2H weapons with their new covenant backpieces…cuz it’s getting ridiculous they still haven’t figured that out yet lol
It’s speculation, but I’m pretty sure. Legion was revealed at Gamescom in August. I’m not really sure there are any other major cons besides that one that they could reveal at. But that feels way too early to do it now. Only two months into 9.1 and already revealing the next expansion?
Personally I’m assuming there will be a 9.3. But if they wait till Blizzcon then we’ll be through 9.2 and it seems like a very natural time to freely talk about 9.3’s finale and the new expansion. If they do it before 9.2 then it kind of just ruins the flow SL’s story. Like talking about the sequel to a book when people aren’t even halfway through the previous one.
Well, it depends really on how far ahead they have content developed. And how complete any of that is.
They have already announced that there will be no Blizzcon this year in November, so unless they announce the next expansion somewhere else (which isn’t likely) the next opportunity would be for the online version which they are saying next year:
“But we don’t want to let too long go by before we connect with everyone again. So in the meantime, we’re planning a global event for the early part of next year, combining an online show along the lines of our recent BlizzConline with smaller in-person gatherings, and we’ll share more as our plans come together.”
So if you go by that, the earliest we would probably have confirmation of the next expac is “the early part of next year”. And that would mean a release, at the earliest, at the end of 2022. So we have over 12 months between then and now and its possible for there to be two major patches within that time.
I think that cutting short this expansion could be a financial disaster for them. They already have people unsubbing and playing other games, if they announced an amputated final patch that would mean people would basically quit playing a month or so after 9.2. I really can’t see them letting that happen.
You have to also consider 9.1 has come at a time when most expansions have been at their x.2 patch also , Blizz has more then one expansion being worked on at any given time and were more then likely working on the 10.0 expansion before WFH.
How do you think they have the assets to show us stuff for the next expansion when the current one is only at the halfway mark as well as being able to have it out within 9-12 months after announcing .
So I take it BC’s announcement ruined Vanilla and Wrath’s ruined BC and so on and so on ?
No real reason to stretch it out.
I want another expansion. [under better dev choices lol]
The pacing should give them enough time to wrap up the final showdown with the Jailer and that’s all that is needed.
9.2 will be the last one IMO
They frontloaded things from .2 to .1 and I feel they put .3 into .2 to wrap it up and get back onto the normal expansion cycle.
I didn’t forget what a dumpster fire the game was up until about Tomb between M+, EN/ToV and how terrible the legendary and artifact systems were early on.
But whenever you talk to people about Legion, they seem to have forgotten that just because Blizzard fixed them by the end of the expansion.
X.2 usually isn’t the halfway mark of an expansion. X.3 is because Blizzard are terrible at pacing and tend to have a 25/25/50 split in terms of how long tiers last.
Yes. A lot of people seem to spread the idea that WoD was cut short because of player disinterest. But we know that is false because WoD’s content was cut while still in alpha and beta, long before the majority of players even got to try it. That combined with the fact WoD caused a large spike in renewed subs from Cataclysm’s disastrous 4.3 patch. The notion that WoD was cut short from anything less than a business model change is just silly.
