Got into a conversation with buddies about what TBC will be like when it comes out. We were discussing some classes that were better/best in TBC as opposed (Shaman, Warlock, Paladin, maybe Hunter) and wondering whether to wait to play those in TBC. And yes, we are certain TBC servers will happen b/c Blizzard likes money and Classic’s popularity has shown them how to get and keep more subs.
Do you think TBC will be for new toons only as opposed allowing transfers of an existing Classic characters?
There will be no TBC
TBC isn’t different enough.
Deathwing didnt wreck the zone, the zone is the same in retail as it was in classic.
The quests didn’t get changed.
The only thing different is the characters talent trees, mana regen and stuff like that.
So
If it didn’t start out fresh, It would likely be a disaster. In Classic, people were spread out over 6 starting areas. This isn’t the case in TBC, everyone is in Hellfire Penninsala. Also, it is better when it comes to the longevity of the game.
I would expect character copy (one time per character) to be available instead of “transfers”. Otherwise, you’d have to leave Classic behind which I’m sure many people wouldn’t want to do
I don’t think it will be a separate service from Classic. That would now be splitting the player base between 3 versions of WoW instead of just two.
My guess is that Classic will eventually get the TBC expansion. I sincerely doubt that Blizzard will try to take Classic down its own development path with “Classic+”. But, Classic will eventually get stagnant and subs will start dropping off.
The natural next step for the nostalgia train would be the TBC expansion in a few years. In all likelihood, I can see that trend progressing to WotLK and stopping there due to Cataclysm being the big revision that eventually turned WoW into what it is today.
Why would it? It wasn’t when TBC launched originally. It wouldn’t be a classic TBC experience without full dungeon groups of Blood Elves and Draenei 1-58.
Most likely you will transfer your 60 character to TBC servers. Since these “classic” servers are meant to be a experience why would they want everyone to relevel 1-60? the only anomaly would be Belf and Space goats. Vanilla Classic was easy as everyone starts at the same place this makes it an easy choice but some issues arise with TBC, namely that streamers, players will want to experience TBC content not Vanilla from 1-60 then TBC after 3-4 weeks. Note that most people are not even level 60 yet. So wasnt changed too much for TBC where leveling was still very slow. the higher 50’s where easier with TBC quests.
This is a just a guess as TBC would be years away and Blizzard hasnt confirmed anything yet. Waiting to hear when Phase 2 will be out.
About as many play WOWC, as played WOW when TBC launched; I don’t see that being an issue anymore than it was when it launched.
There’s too much opportunity for abuse with a copy paste feature from classic to tbc.
Odds are, itll be an opt in or out thing where the character either moves on or doesn’t.
Would prefer a fresh start, considering how much went wrong with classic’s launch, but I don’t see that happening as I’m probably the minority regarding that issue.
I’d prefer it to be separated from wow classic, or to not happen at all.
Keep TBC from Classic: Museum edition. Wait for Classic +
Personally, I kind of hope they are - at least for some initial length of time (like 3-6 months). There are a number of issues with immediately allowing transfers, whether it is a copy or a move, that I’d rather see delayed long enough to allow those who want to level 1-70 to do so without a bunch of 60s stacked with as much gold and goods as they can.
That said, Blizzard has a tendency to not think stuff like this through that well, so even though it’s what I want, I suspect we’ll have a transfer option from day 1. :sigh:
Better be fresh.
class design, balance design, available stats.
heroic keys and attunements no longer being needed.
30% nerf to everything in raids.
LFD exists and you can bypass heroic dungeon lockouts.
gear changed to reflect new gear design (ie, it will always have whatever stat is needed for your spec).
professions work differently and entire consumables are removed. (I can’t chain chug potions, elixirs don’t stack anymore, drums no longer exist, etc).
level scaling and heirlooms completely changes the leveling dynamic.
but nothing has really changed.
that is wotlk…
what is wrath of the lich king? LFD? the person i quoted said we could play Burning Crusade in modern wow and the only thing that really changed was talents.
I would hope it’s fresh. No transfers or copies.
Start over and see where you end up.
Otherwise I could see it being a bad time. A bad time. Such a bad time. Bad. Time.
Blizzard has not confirmed bc. I don’t know why anyone thinks it’s happening yet.
At least if it were fresh it would be easier leveling 1-58 in BC since they added a bunch of quests to the classic world in BC.
Most of the changes you listed were Wrath. (Example is chain chugging pots existed until the very end of TBC.) Of course, other ones you listed came later (stats for spec couldn’t have come before cata “pick a spec”.)
