So they’ve definitely slowed down how fast we are progressing through the game. SoD launched almost 4 months ago and we’re capped at level 40. Phase 3 caps the level at 50. We’ll probably do that for another 2ish months before they release phase 4. So we will be around 6 months of SoD by then. (rough estimate) But then how are they going to do releasing the raids?
I figured they would also do a phased release of the raids with the whole new mechanics and loot thing like they have been. It doesn’t make sense to just re-release all the old raids exactly the same, or were they just planning on adding 1 new raid and leaving the rest untouched? If they go that route it’s definitely a shame.
They said they were scaling Molten core down to 20 man and running it like a 20man raid. Although honestly with the power we got from runes they might not need to make much tuning adjustments.
to be honest, I hate when people say this. Retail doesn’t interest me. It hasn’t interested me in the last 8 years. I haven’t bought or touched the last 3 or 4 expansions.
Retail plays absolutely nothing like this version. Sure, they share the same name, but are two completely different games. A well developed multi year SoD or Classic+ could put retail in for a ringer. I fell in love with this version of WoW and fell out of love with retail as time went on. SoD has literally made me truly enjoy WoW again like I did when I was in high school / college. There is a reason why retail went from literally 10 million active subs at one point down to 5 million in less than 6 months after a single expansion, and it never recovered. So I really just don’t like when people try to push the garbage version of WoW that they enjoy while posting in the thread unrelated to that version.
I would rather go play other games over retail and as a business stand-point that’s bad for business.
I give SoD like, 1 year 6 months in total duration. Its supposed to be seasonal, considered experimental, and not sure how they’re gonna handle endgame content past Molten Core. Maybe they throw in something weird at the end afterwords, but in some sort of legendary armor/weapon grind that requires material out of all the raids/dungeons.
But there’s definitely gonna be an endpoint relatively speaking soon. Not sure what they’ll do after that. My hope would be another SoD like season, using the lessons learned, and mix in TBC but go a bit hog wild with it. Like, there becomes portals so as you’re leveling up theres reasons to dip your toes into Draenor. Then there’s also an excuse for Draeni and Blood Elves, so both Horde and Alliance get Paladin/Shaman.
Past that tho? I’d be hoping for a full Classic+ commitment.
I’d be fine continuing to play SoD as long as they keep making new content. Retail doesn’t offer pvp servers. That’s why I don’t like retail. But there always needs to be more new stuff to do.
Even a new zone or dungeon every few months would keep me happy honestly.
