Will regular mounts become obsolete?

It is… I won’t use it. Not part of my class fantasy. My flight form is a crow. Crows don’t fly like dragons.

I have a small channel on Youtube, the old form of flight allows me to record from the angle I want, very useful for having background landscapes

you can use everything apart from aquatic mounts in pvp.

I still use ground mounts for short distance

I will still have plenty of use for other mounts. Already, I use non-DF flying mounts for short distances and circling above while searching for a specific point such as an NPC or mining node. There is a noticeable tradeoff between speed and precision with dragon riding.

I prefer ground mounts for the same reason. If I’m cruising around Stormwind visiting various shops and NPCs i’d rather be on a horse or saber than a massive dragon. Not only does it simply look better. But it’s less invasive when a dozen players are crowded around one NPC with giant winged mounts covering a ton of real estate.

Then there are the specialty mounts such as the underwater mounts, the water strider, and the goblin herb harvester that all have limited points in the game where they shine.

Dragonflying for long distance, standard mount for short trips.

In Valdrakken, going from center square to the Emerald Dream portal, or the capital city portals, or down to the crafting area, or over to the auction house?
Standard Mount

Going out into the world?
Dragonflying mount.

Or, to take a current holiday example:
Going from Stormwind portals to the Love Is In the Air area?
Standard mount

Going around in Grizzley Hills gathering flowers for Love Is In the Air?
Standard mount

Going around in Nagrand taking pictures for Love Is In the Air?
Dragonflying mount

“Will regular mounts become obsolete?”
No.

I sure hope we have the option for both. Depending on what I am doing I don’t always want to dynamic fly….

I’m not 100% sure but I want to say that something was said about this being unlocked at max level, similar to the way that flying has been done in the past. If so I’m guessing there would be another ‘summon’ spell added where we would have to be on the ground to switch/activate.

For me? If I have to constantly be running around at ground level or short bursts from mob to mob, node to node, quest to quest, I’m using regular mounts, I will chose regular mounts over DR mounts every time. I don’t like DR mounts, any of them.

“Sky swimming,” old school flight is far superior for short burst quest hopping around. I can see every one of my characters either having the dynamic flight on/off switch or two different mounts (one of which not having dynamic flight) readily keybound or on a hotbar.

What will get used less are flight whistles and flight points. They’ll have their place still of course, but a straight line “as the dragon flies” has replaced most uses of flight paths unless I’m going AFK.

Even though I have a flying mount I do not use it to get from point A to point B. The idea is NOT to avoid the mobs on the ground and work your way to the next area the hard way. Flying defeats this purpose.

I legit only care about dragon mounts. I don’t like anything else .

Except flying mounts don’t fly, true?

Speak for yourself, i use regular mounts more than i use DR mounts.

they can’t hover; so, “no”.

true.

…because no bg’s have flight enabled.

I’m just the opposite. I don’t like any of the dragon mounts. I’ll stick with…

You have never gotten bored killing the same valueless mobs every day for 2 years?

I have used aquatic mounts in PvP.

Climbing Hyjal is where I always use a dragon so it doesn’t take forever.

Regular flying mounts are much better in cities, world quest areas, for gathering, and anywhere where precision is more important than speed.

Should have given all mounts flying.
