Will Microsoft purchase improve PvP?

Will the Microsoft purchase of Blizzard improve PvP? What changes would you like to see them make? New BGs, Rated gear wall eliminated. random rated queue, new developers, etc.?

For many, the change cannot come quick enough. I’m getting rid of all my 7/7 unrated gear and doing strictly PvE content now. However, I’d like to start PvPing again, if they will make some changes.

Imagine thinking that anything is changing in the near future.

Hard to say for certain. But, I would imagine that they will look to make it more Esports friendly. Some may think that is good and some may think that is bad. What do I mean by Esports Friendly? The grind to become viable will more and likely be minimized. But, that is just my guess.

i hope so, Qwik is friends with the guy in charge of actblizz now, so maybe wow will get a bit more love now, a better wow means a healthier game population which is always better for the pvp community.

also, they might get a functional HR department now and start checking the pile of resumes they got for the pvp dev position.

I mean the deal doesn’t even close until June of 2023. Nobody really knows. I mean it can’t get any worse really at this point. Maybe they will also start dumping more money into eSports prize pools at advertising them better. And no I don’t want PvP focused around eSports but well advertised and supported eSports can bring more attention to the PvP aspect of the game. The biggest plus would be WoW on Game Pass that right now has 25 million subs. Imagine WoW on game pass with all those players suddenly having access to it, it being advertised there AND even the eSports advertised as well. The Microsoft deal actually brings in a whole new set of possibilities and resources. What remains to be seen is how those are used and implemented, if they even are at all. Won’t know for a while.

With 25 Million potential new customers on the horizon.
Looking at the current version of this game which is at record lows regarding PVP participation.
Hire new team(s) and study what was previously involved in creating the most active periods for starters. Run/Work with this.
Long term vs quick easy profits could very well work to its advantage.

I mean they have just sold up, really cant see them working too hard on making improvements when they know they are out the door soon

Yes it will improve.

Returning to the era where PVP players just do PVP so they can have fun doing PVP.

Title of the next expansion:

World of Warcraft: Microsoft Edition

World of Warcfaft : XP

It’s also possible that Microsoft might later decide that MMOs aren’t part of their strategic vision for the future of gaming. Then, they shut down WoW entirely…

O.O

I’m not sure this can be done gracefully. the mix of unique psychology related to wow’s long run, age of its playerbase, and social stressors would collide in a perfect storm that may result in violence or self harm in the extremes of the playerbase.

you have players who have been playing this game for over a decade at likely an unhealthy level, iirc there was a video from a player who’s account was jacked and his toons all missing. he made a point about how he didn’t have kids or relationships, he just had wow and so his toons meant a lot to him. stop and think about that, he’s replaced having a family with having wow instead. now take that player and realize he’s getting older, late 30s to mid 40s likely, this is already an age where high stressors cause extreme acts. if they cancel wow, it would be destroying these player’s worlds, to them it would be like an attack on their equivalent to a family.

compound this psychology with withdrawal, video games are essentially a chemical free drug, they result in similar dopamine and reward system patterns, its why the playerbase gets angry when the game isn’t good, they aren’t getting their fix.

idk about you, but i wouldn’t want to be the target of a junkie who blames me for destroying his whole world.

Why would they do anything until june 2023 happens? Imagine 9.2 all we get until then

I can see it now - new players will be guided through the new player experience by Clippy.

You mean like hiring an actual PvP director for a change?

That’s two years from now. If the current mangement proceeds to run the IP into the ground in the meantime so the playerbase is gone and the IP worthless, that would be an extreme bad faith move on ActiBlizz’s part.

It’s one year from now.

How time flies when you’re having fun.

Not unless they fire all of the numbskulls currently running the show.
