Will many absolute WoW beginners play Classic?

If I had never played WoW before, I would be very tempted to try Classic. After all, starting WoW now would be like first watching a Game of Thrones episode in the last year or two, when the story was nearly complete and everyone acknowledges the quality of the writing has gone downhill.

Classic will give total WoW beginners a chance to start the story at the start of the story, and the current players won’t have nearly as big an advantage, since many of them have forgotten things like how pvp trinkets worked in Vanilla.

I think Blizzard should actually create a special Classic server just for new WoW players who had never played before- I actually envy the new players who’d be able to experience the game like that.

It kind of be like having the first novel but being content with just that in terms of story.

I would expect there to be quite a few that at least give it a go.
It’s a been a long time and 2006 was not exactly yesterday.
Many people that were toddlers back then are now in a ripe young gaming age and might check it out. It’s a different story how many of them will stay but let’s not go there.

I don’t think there should be any special servers though, just throw them in with the veterans and let the rest sort itself out naturally.

Everyone has at least heard of WoW. The chance to jump in and play the game they completely missed out on years ago would be very seductive for many. And once you start, we all know how addictive it can be.

none exist, if they cared at all… they would have played the free version

We already have our guild forming, and we have 2 people dedicated to the guild who have NEVER touched wow in any capacity before.

They’re currently glued to beta streams and guides.

I suspect many who haven’t played it already will dismiss it out of hand due to the dated graphics. Which is a shame as they would probably love the game if they gave it a shot.

Hopefully they will let in a lot of players for free the last week before launch. Could help give new players a taste.

I think that’d be quite ironic considering retail WoW’s graphics are basically the same. Generally, WoW looks pretty terrible when compared with pretty much any other MMO.

Anyways, I think blizz will try to steer beginners to retail. The majority of completely new players will probably be those who followed the hype or got dragged into it with friends.

I was asking myself the same question. I think a lot of new players are going to at least try it, but I also think that Classic will lack many commodities that are sort of standard for MMORPGS out there, and that might curb a bit the experience from players that come from a title like XIV, for example.

But then, who knows? Maybe Classic WoW can be the 1st game from someone that never experienced the genre before! That (minus the community) would equal the most approximate Vanilla experience.

Modern MMORPGS are a failing business model that relies on cash shops to keep the game afloat

I guess a lot of people feel that way. Myself however, I prefer the simple graphics of WoW compared to other games, the hyper realism type graphics… A lot of their wolds seem drab to me. Where as WoW is colorful, cheerful.

Sure, the Eastern MMO’s are super flashy with high quality graphics, but the game-play makes me a little crazy. I remember trying TERA, the first time I failed at gathering an herb and whined…I was done.

The new business model is the unlimited option subscription model. EA is already doing this, Activision-Blizzard will be following suit. Not unlike other content providers for other media.

Many different games for a single subscription. This no longer relies on microtransactions, but recurrent player spending.

with the lack of new online games worth playing i can see people who never played the original at least having a look to see what the hypes about or to just kill some time on something a bit different plus there is no pay to win cash shop which alot of the newer games have killed themselves with.

I know that classic doesn’t have a lot of the modern bells and whistles, but it has SOUL, and no modern MMO that I’ve tried has it. I think a lot of people are gonna be instantly drawn into it, especially if they choose one of the races with an impressive starting area like night elves.

I think if someone completely new to WoW is looking at the game, they will be likely to play classic first. People generally like to start at the beginning of things, and I bet most new people will assume that playing classic first would ease them into current retail.

I watched some streaming of the Beta, and I thought the graphics looked great…also a great deal smoother than I remember Vanilla; smooth and creamy as silk, to my eyes.

I think there is a high possibility that some new players, especially ones coming from other MMOs will enjoy Classic and stick around.

There is something for everyone in Classic, which is a big part of why it is such a good game.

I think you will see a lot. The hype around Classic will be huge.

Anybody can start to play classic-wow is not a game ask you for “Mechanical-skills” only “gamesense + patient”.

You dont have to kill a boss like Sekiro with brutal amounts of reactions
You dont have to kill Nergigante like in MHW with 225 Def first time
You dont have to beat a FF14 raid memorizing 30 steps or you wipe

This game is about endure the grind, be patient and have gamesense to avoid do stuff that potential can wipe you often

Playing Classic teaches how to WoW.

Mechanics and class abilities are revealed and learned from the beginning, since early content is challenging enough to show benefits of playing well. But the leveling content is doable and not hardmode.

Retail is too much of a cakewalk at its worst. For a new player at low level, an MMO looks like free stuff in exchange for following icons. No mechanics really necessary. No grouping likely.

In Classic, a new player will learn to play from and with others while grouping for quests and leveling dungeons.

The choice is clear for new players: Classic.

Even if the player decided later they want to play retail, starting with Classic is the way to go.
