Will Classic succeed?.Your predictions

I’ve heard alot of hype about classic from both sides, lots of love, but also lots of hate. So what does everyone think will happen to Classic at the end of the first year? My own opinion is that it will maintain around 2 mil. subs. playing classic only and another million that will bounce btw retail and classic. Also I think they may eventually break the 2 apart and have subs. solely for each. What do the rest of you think??

It will do well starting off, but settle down after a while. It’s not gonna beat Retails numbers.

It’s gonna attract the old players of wow that stopped playing because game was not what they were looking for anymore.
Game went from very good, to terrific to good to subpar to boring

So will it drop off after a year or so, or will it maintain good numbers?

I’m thinking it will drop off in a year or so, once the newness wears off.

will lose half the playerbase who never played Vanilla wow within 6 month

it will drop off some numbers, however it will have good amount of players that enjoy the game and keep playing. Meaning if you enjoy the game, just because you finished it on one player, you will play on other characters.

as a profitable product for actiblizzard absolutely.

as a replication of the vanilla experience lol no.

Nah, Classic’s still got many of the ‘vanilla-killer’ aspects to it and then some. Dishonorable kills, XRBGs, layering, indirectly nerfed raids/dungeons outside of late AQ/Naxx, mothering TOS, and ‘basically-retail’ AV.

Classic will succeed. There will be a retail tourist invasion, level off after a few months, then steadily grow as folks playing bring the old crews back around to the game. Classic is a game that has growing potential, once the initial launch wave bails.

I predict people quit in 6 months leaving a stable monthly avg users pop of 300k

Up to 5 million at launch worldwide then after a year or two it will maintain a population of 200-300,000.

I have high hopes for it, but if they go live with this layering nonsense, I don’t see it going anywhere. I certainly won’t play it, because it’s the very thing I hope to get away from.

From what i’ve seen/read the layering will be temporary, not lasting more than the first 2-4 months.

Retail is dead. There will be way more people playing classic for years to come then retail.

I still enjoy playing retail and will continue to do so, most likely, although i have nowhere near the love for the game i used to, primarily due to WoD onwards. However, i prefer the less ADD style of Classic and most of my time for the next year will likely be spent there. I think Classic will be very successful because the real community feel that breeds addiction in MMOs is front and center in Classic. The community for it is just much nicer than modern WoW.

It’ll start gangbusters and then even out.

The days of millions of subscribers for years at a time are long past. Classic will reach its audience which is all it needs to do to be a success.

It’s kind of like “will people eat less corned beef sandwiches in 2020?”

I don’t care. I want to eat a corned beef sandwich – now. I want to go down on it hard.

Other people can do whatever they want to do. Play Fortnite, Candy Crush, collect video game clothes and pretty video game ponies in retail, whatever. Just don’t get between me and my corned beef sandwiches.

I think it will be very popular for everyone till the next retail patch comes out. I also think that the population will slowly and steadily increase after the tourist exodus.

Some from retail will stay and other older players will be pulled back in as the content releases.

In general i think it will rival or surpass retail numbers during retail content droughts and retail will have more during new content releases.

Its going to be a success. That much is certain.
