Will Classic require a new install?

Sorry if this is a dumb or duplicate question… I couldn’t find the answer. I am a returning player (or planning to be) when Classic comes out… I am trying to determine if I should install the current retail client or if a new client will be needed to play… any ideas?

I’d assume it’ll be separate like the PTR, you download it and choose it from the launcher. I’d guess you would need the retail game to make the launcher work right?

You only need an active subscription or game time, it doesn’t matter which version of Retail you have. When it becomes available it will either appear on the drop menu where you can choose World of Warcraft or World of Warcraft Classic or it will have its own icon on the side panel.
Either way you shouldn’t need a new client.

Thats kind of what I thought… but I want to DL whatever I need to get as far as I can before launch… I guess I can DL the free version for now and worry about it when launch day comes.

Classic WoW runs on a separate client than the retail client.

You’ll have the option to install it from the launcher.

If you want to play both Classic and Retail, you’ll install each client separately and launch each one separately.

Thanks Nox… appreciate it

Yeah it’s a dupe post but that’s alright. Half this forum is probably dupes. It’ll be a separate client from retail, retail isn’t required on your pc, you just need an active sub. Pretty sure you can find a vod from one of the streamers installing the beta.

You will to install it apart from retail but it will be under the WoW tab on the blizzard app

Ok… I found this… staring me in the face:

" Download the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App. Within the App, click on the World of Warcraft tab, select “WoW Classic” in the Region/Account drop-down menu, and then click the Install button to install the game.”

You will install additional assets that differ from Retail, under the _classic_ folder of your WoW installation.

If you only install Classic, the necessary _retail_ assets will be downloaded as well and placed in the _retail_ folder. To play Retail you’d require further downloading at that point.

The logical client is a different executable, but there are significant overlaps in the data files.

im trying to download for wow classic but I cannot find the option anywhere. its probably staring me right in the face but I need the real dumbed down version on how to download the wow classic launcher please.

It’s in the drop down menu next to your account name.

It will be a new client under “Live” on launch day.

If you have one under “Beta” or “PTR” then it will be deleted and replaced with that.
