Will Classic have expansions?

Surely this game is meant to last more than a couple years That means there has to be expansions, right?

If so, what will they do differently?

They have stated that classic is basically a museum piece.

I would be more hopeful they make something of a hybrid out of current retail over the next couple of expansions and try to weld together the best of both.

No-one knows, everyone has ideas, we won’t find out till Blizzcon 2020.

Classic itself will not change. Ever. (After CP6)

Unless it does. Always in motion, the future is.

It will defeat the legal purpose for Classic’s existence. They’ll totally create TBC and Wrath servers eventually, where you copy your character to. But it won’t change Classic.

I hope for separated Classic+ Servers to run 2 versions.
One version as Vanilla was and one version with improvements taking into account the “classic philosophy”.

It seems very unrealistic that they would work this hard to create something with such a short prospective lifespan.

If people play it, they will have to continue adding content somehow.

No one knows but blizzard. They will have to do legacy xpacs to protect their IP though.

‘legal purpose’??? The ‘legal purpose’ of Classic is for people to give Blizzard money on a monthly basis for access to a game. There is no contract or binding agreement that says it will be set in stone forever. Change, in the end, is inevitable. If nothing happens after Naxx is on farm, the servers stagnate with groups at max level with nothing to do, and the communities will wither and die, which is still Change. If servers are reset, so that people can begin again, that is still Change. If new content is added, either with TBC or Classic+, that is still Change. Change will happen. The question, then, is what form that change will take.

I love how some of you think that a relaunch of classic means they are going to reboot the entire series instead of you know… RERELEASE TBC/WOTLK JUST THE SAME.

2020 make azeroth great again.

Well, it is one of the things the community has been seriously talking about. My problem with ‘Classic+’ is that I don’t trust the Blizzard of BFA to make new content for Classic, not yet. Maybe by the time 9.0 or 10.0 has rolled around, and they have (hopefully) shown they can make good games again, but not before then. TBC and WotLK would give us time, while reliving the game’s most popular era, for Blizzard to find themselves once again.

The Legal Purpose for Classic is to reclaim the Intellectual Property stolen by European private servers claiming protection under Abandonware. If they go and change classic substantively away from that, those server can claim abandonment again.

It is. And its called Retail.

According to the 4chan leak, there will be a trilogy.

Klassic, TBC, and WoTLK servers.

Can’t confirm this to be true, so no one knows. But it makes sense to me.

Blizz has already said if classic is a success they will look into BC and WOTLK. As to how they implement it is unknown, they may just let this go into BC. It make a new server with BC out and we all start over, who knows.

I think classic being released mainly to protect their IP is a bold assumption that doesn’t seem to have any real basis. It may very well be the case but saying it like it is fact seems silly to me.

Money for subs is enough.

I hope you’re right, but:

And they would have an uphill battle claiming that. As long as Blizzard tracks and enforces the copyright, they are still protected, and the private servers can be shut down as soon as Blizzard’s lawyers hear of them and get a court order.

And no, even on Classic, change will come, as I said. Either change by stagnation, or change by server wipes, or change by new content. Either way, change will come. An MMO is not like a single-player game. It is a living, breathing entity, not a snapshot in time.

Classic+ will never happen, it’s unknown step in the other direction of a place that has shown massive success (TBC/WotLK), and it’d be dumb to ignore the potential of remaking those 2 expansions in a venture to find out what they could do with Classic+ and based on their latest game development they don’t trust themselves and will go with TBC/WotLK over guess work.

I didn’t say never :stuck_out_tongue: I said it will not change ever.
