The PTR for both the PvP changes and the HC server are on the DF client. Will the Era client update to this? Or will it remain as it is on Era currently?
Does this imply the stupid new UI and the slower response time and dropping framerates?
I then sure hope not!
Classic should say Classic.
What’s most likely happened is that the Classic Team’s engineering arm has merged in the engine changes and LUA UI for options from the 10.x release of WoW. That means server stuff, graphics pipeline stuff, and ancillary UI which had already been adjusted for the release of Classic in 2019 (the options in the Vanilla WoW client were very different).
So, yes, this will affect all Classic Era 1.14.4 realms, Hardcore or not.
Just parts of the UI that are reachable via the Main Menu (settings, interface options, keybindings, etc.). Your unit frames, spellbook, profession UI, etc. will look and function identically.
This will contain all the updates to the rendering pipeline that Dragonflight did, including improvements to ambient occlusion, resample quality, graphics API implementation, and support for newer GPUs. But the Classic assets are limited in ways that will prevent these things from having a perciptble impact on your current experience in Classic. If your rig has been having issues with Dragonflight but not with Classic, you have no reason to expect that to change.
In spirit, yes. In implementation, absolutely not. There has to be a line in the sand as to what is maintained as separate and what things are re-used between Retail and Classic in order for Classic sticking around to be feasible, and the Classic Team has been handling that quite well. If a bunch of dialogs being changed so that Classic gives players control over things like whether to enable VRS mode is violating your childhood memories of playing Vanilla on dial-up, I don’t know what to tell you.
Inclusion of Trainer “books” in MiniMap,
I have not even downloaded DF, much less played it, so I do not know. But “my rig” are perceptibly slower when playing HC test realm AND Wrath - FPS is around half of what it is in Era - and Wrath and Era played the same before we had the new UI.
If it was ONLY the ugly DF interface I could live with it, but all the in-game changes, like the aforementioned Trainer “books” (also FP markers and carets to stay in the minimap) and slow performance, that tag along is not in line with the Classic experience in my opinion.
If that wasn’t an explainable, deliberate change, hit F6 and write your Live Journal entry about it to them. I’m not sure it’s the hill I’d pick to die on, but… yeah… it’s definitely a change.
If you’re referencing FPS to give us an understanding of the degradation you’ve seen, okay. But if you needed an FPS meter to detect it, that would be the opposite of “perceptible”, which means something that can be noticed with the senses alone, i.e. without the benefit of measurement tools. I’m not saying loss of performance isn’t an issue, I’m just asking whether you regularly run an FPS meter and noticed it was lower than it used to be, or if you perceived a decreased framerate with your eyeballs and then measured it. The latter would be far more concerning than the former.
Having played WoW since 2004, thinking of Pentiums and CRT monitors, I literally laughed out loud at this one.
It’s just a fact that maintaining two branches for the engine perpetually isn’t feasible from a DevOps perspective. They must, every once in a while, get the Classic client caught up with Retail, technologically speaking. Otherwise, they would have just shipped the 2006 client again in 2019 and called it a day—which would have been an absolute disaster.
I did, and as it bothers me mucho I am - if not dying on this hill - certainly fighting on it.
I do not even have an extra FPS meter I use the in-game Alt + R to see it. I felt that the performance was perceptibly and consistently worse, choppy, sloppy and laggy in Wrath and in the Test realm as compared to the Era servers and checked to see exactly HOW bad it was Normally I do not care to do this.
A halving of the FPS on my old rig, that NB still manages to scrape clear of the minimum requirements on the Blizz website, sure can be seen and felt without an meters telling me so
Hehe, I understand this (I only started in 2006, but on an old PC back then). And if the experience from the beginning of Classic had been like it was I would have enjoyed it. But as is now, where only the two versions running on the new engine are choppy, clunky and laggy, i think it is not very smart, I have been pampered with the fine experience of Era - and Wrath up to latest patch.
PTR keeps trying to connect to voice chat you know that thing NOT in classic
Yes I have this too and found it a strange error - what does it mean?
PS. I have reported it, at least twice I think.
Error pertaning to the new UI:
Auto shoot or Auto Attack not working as expected in Era:
