Do you all think this will happen? Is it already happening?
What part of WoW? Coding, storyline, NPCs, support?
It will take some convincing for me to believe that the first level of in-game support isn’t already an AI.
They will likely use it for quest npc dialogues, because it costs way too much to voice act the older parts of the game.
I’d like to see dynamic quest text influenced by player responses, but computing power/server requirements say, “no bueno”.
While i hate the notion of AI replacing artists, some AI voices for npcs could be ok. Assuming it’s just for ones that are currently unvoiced. If its a choice between no actors and no voices, and no actors and voices, the latter does seem better.
They… they have AI dungeons.
it would be cool.
NPCs that are AI-powered. think of the next-gen PvE it could bring.
I think that is inevitable - note most what we do is already processed largely by AI.
Smart art suggestion/reactive raid mechanics/drive control and assistance.
I think what is at the core is how much it will independently do a human task. Will AI make an expansion from conceptualisation to completion all on its own? It’s unlikely. Will we rely on AI more to help make smart decisions? Absolutely
More fun to just make up a voice in your head and read their stuff with it ![]()
Eventually we will make our consciousness in our brains able to move in and out of our body at will as smart AIs as we enter Computers and quickly do what we want for our goals I presume…
If they are worried about matters of continuing of consciousness then they will use Nanites to convert our brains to machine with us barely noticing the transition aside from our senses expanding…
The story feels like it’s being written by AI sometimes lol.
It’s rarely ever unpredictable.
You knew from the very start, Alexstraza was gonna be featured in several long-winded cutscenes talking like she’s important or something. And then you’re off to get the actual job done, because the cutscene was just her talking.
Mine inner voice says, “nachos are always the answer”
wiggles toes
At least the August Celestials provided World Bosses for the Players to fight to demonstrate their credentials!
Why couldn’t Blizzard have the same done for the Dragon Aspects?!
I would have so wanted to see the full extent of the Aspects’ abilities!
Oh wait… They only get said abilities after the Raid don’t they?.. Can they give us the Aspects as Tournament World Bosses?
In theory. I’m real bad at reading sometimes though. My brain sometimes skips ahead and puts things out of order.
AI voice acting only really works in the lowest tier of “voice acting”, outside of some specific and expensive circumstances
It doesnt have adequate emotion and tone (when using it at a price point under just hiring a voice actor)
It will be a while before it can actually replace the voice over actors and be worthwhile. Unless you just need basic text to speech.
AI VO always mispronounces words, names, etc. And more often than not stresses the wrong words and inflections. I hate AI generated VO.
True. Its why I don’t rush when I read quest text. Sometimes I do that thing where I get too excited and skip parts then have to go back and read again lol
“AI” in this game isn’t the same as actual AI.
I mean it’s more or less just a script running in the background with RNG to make it do different things in different orders with some condition checks. Extra.
Unbeatable Mobs that get infinitely smarter the more times we beat them up and practically lock us out of the game just for sheer difficulty once we exhuasted our options and it can even predict our movements or actions?
Yeah no, i think it’s in our best benefit to keep the NPC’s dumb, thanks.
Or you’re talking about them just making random conversations?
Ye, it was a bad joke. There’s nothing intelligent even in an artificial manner behind those followers. Lots just call them AI dungeons. I even do when I’m referring to those kinds of dungeons as a cross game concept.
Though maybe “bot dungeon” is better. Idk.
They seem to be already using AI in the art department. A lot of the assets, especially armor sets, seem to be remarkably similar this expansion. How many variations of the long open skirt have we seen thus far? Or sets with big plates on the hips? There’s a wealth of cosmetic items out there in DF and I’d be willing to bet there’s an AI fulfilling half of them.
