Will Blizz save PvP this xpack?

I an average joe agree 100% with the below.

New season hype will end soon and then Blizz will have a big problem on the PvP side of things.

And to the “who cares about pvp?” people. It seems you are right and prepare for things to get overall a little bit lonelier in the WoW world… That is not a good thing.

PvP is the thing that keeps me playing when the content runs dry, I have no idea how they keep messing this up with the mountains of feedback they have as well as prior experience with pvp systems

So somewhere near the end of week 2 after release?

I though Bringing back PvP specific Item level was a great thing.

Now you can get PvP gear that is artificially better in the content you like to do. How is that not good?

I Thought that’s exactly what people wanted. the return of PvP gear being really good.

PvP is in a very good state. Gear acquisition tied to rating ensures that players must earn their gear and better learn their classes, which is great for the state of PvP overall. I’m excited for the changes and appreciate them immensely

PVP honor gear is a noob trap.

PVP needs some serious attention.

That’s not what was delivered. At least not on its face.

The gap between honor gear & conquest gear has never been as massive as it is. There’s roughly at 50% power difference between max rank honor gear and max rank conquest gear. At no point in wow’s history has this difference in power been more than 5-8% between these two sets.

All that changed between this season and last season is that pvp gear is no longer a good quick path for a pve’er to gear up for pve, because of this seasons pvp gear scaling up in pvp only.

No one asked for the massive power difference. No one asked for making grinding honor/conquest gear take 4-5x more than it did historically in any expansion prior. No one asked for ranks on gear, let alone be locked behind time-gate renown.

Conquest gear being really strong sounds to me like it should have a grind.

I mean, Renown Time gating just assures that you need to actually play the expansion in order to get the best PvP gear. Considering you can get to 40 renown REALLY fast in the current patch.

However: I should say thank you for actually explaining this to me, I don’t pvp.

They did but they only did half the job

The rating locking is extremely bad and inflated by the versatility only gear and the versatility amp on the gear

Ironically blizzard said they wanted to keep it that way so you didn’t need two sets of gear, every pvp player that does pve said you need two sets anyway and that was ignored up until now when they decided to split it

The current system is a horrible mess

The renown locking is also insane because we can have over half of our conquest gear by the time they actually let us upgrade the PvP gear to a level that’s reasonable but you can just ignore it and get pve gear with vers on it then fill conquest gear around it

Thank you for explaining this and being level headed.
It’s unfortunate that the gearing is so scuffed that players need to do an inordinate amount of grinding just to be competitive.

But, I will assert that bringing back PvP vendors was a big step up, even if it’s a huge mess.

It feels better but it ended up creating a new set of problems that could have been avoided if they’d just reverted back to any one of the systems they had prior

They’re not allowed to BACKTRACK, don’t be silly. That would be admitting they made mistakes.

Blizzard loves to commit for an entire expansion if they can.

PVP honor gear is starter gear. There is no point to force a month long wait for honor gear to be fully upgraded when its ilevel now is lowered in PVE.

Why make it so painful and annoying and with so much lack of communication and just straight up avoidance.

They acting real scared. Like hiding under their beds.

As someone who doesn’t PVP on WoW outside of the random BG itch, I don’t see why Blizzard keeps putting themselves in this mess.

Why do they keep changing PVP systems? Esp when they finally stumble upon one that seems to work and the majority of the PB is fine with.

Literal no need to keep reinventing the wheel in WoW PVP.

Am I wrong?

You’re not wrong but this time around, for this expansion unlike any other, everything has been changed and laid at the alter of playtime metric/analytics.

Very insulting apart from the reward structure which is directly tied to performance/enjoyment - there’s only been one new bg created since wod. One. In a now five year span.

I’d argue for semantics that wod/ashran doesn’t even count since it 1) was core to the expansion and 2) it’s an epic so it can’t be played in rateds, all they did is plop it into a queue list and ditched a few things and gave it clearer & faster obtainable win conditions. So if you discount ashran, other than seething shore from bfa, we haven’t really had a new battleground since mop with tok & dwg which pushes us to one new bg in the last seven years.

They haven’t even managed to fix and make permanent ss vs tm for an extra epic bg. It only comes up like once a month as a brawl lol.

It’s pathetic.

They can’t save PvE this expac so obviously PvP is out of the question.

This has never happened in the game yet.

Posters will say WoD, and maybe it was the best of the styles, but it absolutely wasn’t being praised when it was current.

And if they go back to it (maybe they should?) new posters will come to the forums complaining about it.

WoD was the removal of resilience and PVP power, right? Honor and conquest wasn’t too far apart and it was more of a “skill focused@ meta, right?

Just seemed like you see folks more in favor of the WoD and I think it was Legion systems than any other.
