Will BFA be free when prepatch hits or when shadowlands releases?

Sorry if this has been asked a lot, im a new player and wanted to know if i should buy BFA now or wait for shadowlands

I’d wait for Shadowlands. I’m pretty sure BfA will be rolled into the base game at launch. You’re only about a month away, so don’t bother buying BfA now. You’ll safe yourself money waiting. And you can still participate in prepatch, at least I’m pretty sure.

Thank you, i appreciate it

Prepatch makes bfa part of the base game

There are 2 different situations:

  1. You don’t have WoW at all. Once BFA is rolled into the base game, you wlil get BFA when you purchase the base game.

  2. You have WoW but not BFA. Once BFA is rolled into the base game, will you instantly get BFA added to your account? Maybe you will. I don’t know.

I don’t know what will happen, or when it will happen. Some players (in another thread) think this change will happen very soon: at the SL prepatch day, which is 2 or 3 weeks before the SL launch day.

If you have WoW but not BFA, it makes sense to wait and see.

You have to buy expansions when they come out. The base game contains all expansions minus the most current one, so you don’t need to buy all the expansions, just the base game and Shadowlands.

The previous base game will be upgraded to include BFA. This gives those who keep the subscription but don’t wanna buy the expansion the option to keep playing.

If you think you can buy just the expansion and get the base game for free, you are wrong.

Plus requiring multiple expansions that do not reflect endgame play would chase away a ton of new and/or returning players.

Will probably be included with the base game

I think you might have to buy BFA and SL’s, I think they wait a little before they actually combine the two. For whatever reason I feel like it’s 6 months before you don’t need the previous and current expansion bought to play. Don’t take my word on it though, I’ve only had to buy legion and the corresponidjng expansions so far given I haven’t started playing right before a new expansion is supposed to come out.

I guess you could wait to see what does and doesn’t happen honestly, like wait till the expansion launches then try and see if you can simply buy SL’s and skip having to get BFA too.

No. The entire base game is free now with a subscription or gametime. I started 3 new Legion locked accounts recently, and I just pay for gametime. I started a new one at the beginning of BfA and played Legion on it for a year before buying BfA.

They haven’t done that since MoP. I started playing on a starter account at the end of MoP. I was intending to get 50 characters up to level 20 before making a decision to buy. But the bundle made purchasing wod a good value.

Wait for Shadowlands, bfa will be included in the base game.

It’s going to 100% be included in the base game during prepatch.

The new leveling system forces new players to go through BfA.

The new leveling requires new players to play through BfA content. That change is introduced in the pre-patch. Therefore, BfA must be included in the base game and that must happen when 9.0.1 releases. Otherwise new subbed players would have to stay at level 10.

Ew, they actually make you play BFA for 10 levels…that’s about as bad as going through WoD honestly.

No. New WoW players are required to do the new starting island. That takes you to level 10. Once they reach Stormwind/Orgrimmar after that, they are required to start BfA. And they do BfA to reach level 50.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWW so you can’t pick any other zone?! That’s seriously dumb and defeats the purpose of what their doing.

Its the most recent story and that’s what they want new players seeing, also it’s not really a bad leveling experience.

God I leveled through it so many times on alts, it got old fast for me. I always hated the scheming of Kul’tiras too, it felt like it was trying to be 3 things at once and was all haphazardly slapped together.

Yeah. Exactly. It’s to make sure the new people are caught up with the most relevant story before entering Shadowlands.

Even when its part of the base game BfA is a questionable acquisition.
