Last week I finally got around to leveling a rogue to 80 making 15 80’s, one of each class plus 2 extra hunters (one of each specialization). I visited siren isle, grabbed a set of gear off the vendor and the ring. Then I took my subtlety rogue into a tier 8. It was unpleasant. The lightning trinket makes sapping mostly impossible, vanish doesn’t seem to work since Brann is still in combat and enemies just seem to run right at me. I had so many instances of more adds than there should have been coming than any other character. First class I haven’t gotten the achievement for doing a tier 8 without dying. Usually by the first or second delve I run. I did 8 total this week, but one was so bad I ran out of revives and had to reset.
In contrast, yesterday I decided to at least try a tier 11 again, the first and only time being on this hunter when Brann was mid 30s and my ilevel was 606. I ran into a group of 5 including some mini boss and it ended badly.
This time I went in with a 620 ilevel frost DK. Took about 12 minutes and I got the achievement for doing a tier 11 without dying.
Now, I’m wondering. Am I just exceptionally bad at rogue, sub in particular, or are they as a class/spec just that much worse than every other class? I haven’t yet played every spec as it currently exists, or preservation at all.
Maybe I’ll level 2 more rogues from the 50s and try assassination and outlaw lol.
I noticed for me my delve experience is heavily related influenced by the class I play. Granted I’ve only done just over 100 delves since launch. Brann for me just hit lvl 20. I read many times people have Brann maxed out and they’ve stated they played hundreds of delves I read someone claimed they did about a thousand delves.
Don’t know how exaggerated those statements are but just to say I’ve played far less than most.
I take my ret paladin in a delve at any tier I’ve yet done (max is an 8) it’s either a joke to feeling just about good challenge wise on the tier 8 end.
Take my mage and above tier 4 I’m cursing more at my screen in one drive than on my pally over a combined five or six delves .
I have a priest snd man I must be terrible on priest I get my butt kicked up and down . I literally don’t know what to do on a tier 3 even I died a tier 3 , I’m talking the end boss but still it’s embarrassing.
My lock I do better than I thought it’d go but she’s not tried over a 4 yet because her gear sucks. Still no deaths in her.
Need to try a dk but first have to get him to 70.
So yeah all this to say delves are super influenced by class. If I want chill I run my ret.
Just as there are some classes/specs that are particularly good at solo content, there are others that are particularly bad. That’s just the nature of having classes that are distinct from one another.
I’ve found rogues to be particularly bad. It’s still possible. I geared my assassination rogue up to 620+ in delves but I can’t say I enjoyed the process.
Sub isn’t exactly a very popular spec atm, Outlaw is probably a bit more. I made a topic like a month or two ago asking the same thing for Outlaw, but I got better at the spec and T8s are pretty much a breeze for me now.
I came from Warrior so that pretty much skewed my perspective of Rogue, but once I developed an actual interest and picking up my Outlaw ago my experience with Rogue was vastly better.
Trickster sub can just permanently transfer all threat to Brann which makes it much more doable.
Assassination and Outlaw have an easier time, but always spec for aoe/cleave and always pick your fights using sap, blind and kidney liberally. And of course vanish. You can skip many, many packs because of stealth since Brann won’t do anything when he’s a healer and you didn’t enter combat.
Rogue in delves is kinda eh but it’s doable and definitely more exciting than easymodes such as ret or hunter.

For bosses, hit fade on cooldown. This forces Brann to tank. When fade has 10 seconds left on cooldown, pick up Brann’s potions. The hot will keep you alive until fade is up again. Repeat until victorious.
For trash, do the same thing with fade. Also dominate mind dangerous mobs and use void tendrils on melee so they leave you alone while you burn down the casters.

Yeah that no longer works on my 77 rogue. One day it did now it doesn’t. I switched specs and back to see if that would fix it but nope. It last 30 seconds and expires.
Dang was it removed? Trickster just had perma tricks of the trade.
Sorry, I thought it still worked that way, I admit I didn’t play my rogue in a while because it’s not exactly fun atm.
It might have been changed I couldn’t say. I thought it was bugged. If it was changed that is a stupid change.
It wasn’t changed.
I’ve been Trickster Outlaw for the entirety of Delves since idc about Fatebound and it has always redirected aggro to Brann.
Funnily enough, I’ve recently been doing delves again on my frost dk and having an awful time with it. Doing tier 8s at 606 with the 4 piece bonus. I get through them well enough, but face the constant aggravation of Brann grabbing and holding aggro. Even when i start a pull popping all cooldowns, all but my main target will jump onto Brann. Who then proceeds to run away, often into packs of other mobs, or into webs, or outside of my candle light.
So it has me thinking, are dks just weak right now? I don’t do group content, use damage meters or pay attention to any kind of logs. So I’m completely disconnected to wider opinions of them. But they sure feel bad to me!
I have all the classes maxed to 80 all with the Siren Isle gear, and Rogue was by far the worst class I played in Delves but Assassination is really fun to play. Just not in Delves.
Frost/Unholy seems to be above middle pack according to WCL with Frost being in 3rd place for keys.

This statement makes me doubt your perspective. No number of hunters could ever be considered as having extra. So, points off.
The rest, yes. You will find these differences.

The same thing happens to me with my DK. I constantly have to taunt things off of him. I think his heals are just so large once he’s leveled that he generates a ton of threat. I read in the ptr notes that they are decreasing healer Brann’s threat generation. Hopefully its enough that he stops tanking when I don’t want him to.

Yeah, I’m not sure that’s a good idea.
Have you ever tried the trio bosses of Nightfall Sanctum on T11? You want him to hold that aggro, I’m aware of the nerfs past T8 but still.
Also, where did you see the threat changes? I’m looking at the PTR feedback for delves but don’t see anything.

Yeah I actually saw that in the patch notes just ealier today. I guess my pally and mage (who i do most delves with) have far better up front damage so Brann doesn’t get a foothold. Hopefully that change makes the difference. I plan to delve a lot with my dk in season 2 because their tier set is amazing.
Hopefully it isn’t huge, I have no idea how T11s will be for S2 regarding auto attacks so this could easily backfire on ppl playing melee specs.
DM giving DR will help I’ll admit.
Try delves on Unholy DK spec with the Riders of Apocalypse hero talents. It’s a completely different experience. I switched from Frost, was tired of struggling to get more dps and keep my health up. Unholy took about 30 minutes on a target dummy to get the gist. Unholy functions more like a demo lock with lots of bodyguards. Good luck!
