Wild speculation: Cosmic Life took over one of the First Ones

As we can see in the cosmology chart, we have four shells in each corner of the page. One of the most popular theory after Shadowlands was that they represented the First Ones. Beings who apparently created/organized the Warcraft universe. These shells surround the Universe on all sides, but they are far away, removed from all the chaos on the cosmic board.

With one exception.

In the Life section, a small tree branch managed to reach the corner of the map, connecting herself to the symbol surrounding the shell. I don’t know if it’s canon, but you can see it much better on the colored map. This is a truly intriguing detail, only visible in the case of Nature.

This opens way to some very crazy conspiracies. I believe that Life gained the power of Zereth Vitae and maybe managed to reach one of the First Ones. We know that access to Zereth is forbidden for some reasons, perhaps within each lies the body of one of the First Ones representing each power. Even if Life don’t find literal Gods there, by gaining some of their creators vast knowledge and technology they must have found out about the others and now started hunting down the rest of their heritage and the remaining First Ones wherever they are.

You’ve noticed that in Zereth Mortis, the heart of Shadowlands and the OG dimension of death, we can find a ridiculous amount of Nature? More than a half of the zone consists of lakes, trees and grass. The zone map itself seems to show Life as an alien force in this location (I’m sure the northern part of zone full of sand was its original appearance) coming from beyond Zereth slowly creeping towards the Sepulcher of the First Ones where perhaps the bodies of the true gods are hidden.

If this is true, the existence of Ardenweald may be more important and ominous than anyone realized!

Ardenweald specializes in rebirth, merging, and sending souls to other dimensions (particularly to the life plane). Interestingly, if we focusing on the Rebirth aspect, if there’s a body of one of the First Ones there, Arendweald could have been one big experimental laboratory to bring the First Ones back to life! From the beginning his goal was for Life to enter Shadowlands, study death and rebirth, later go to Zereth Mortis, then into the tomb and take whatever was lying there, revive it through rebirth magic, and send it by the Emerald dream to the Gardens of Life where they would serve the purposes of the Gods of Nature. This was the purpose of Winter Queen presence in the Death Pantheon from the very beginning!

  • (If we assume that there is one First One buried in each Zereth, the presence of Eonar alongside the titans becomes more and more suspicious. If Odyn knew about Zereth Ordos, the most sacred place of the Titan Order, it would be impossible for Eonar, placed even higher, not to know about it. I won’t be surprised if when we visit Zereth Ordos, a large part of the zone will be decorated with beautiful lush flora.)

I think the First Ones and their flawed design, the reality that the Jailer was trying to reshape, seems like a meta-commentary by Danuser on Chris Metzen and his worldbuilding.

Therefore, SL Lore is not worth discussing and should be abolished and forgotten.
It’s wild outer space fanfiction, so far away from classic fantasy adventure stories, and I’m quite sure it won’t be addressed in the future with Metzen back in charge.

Would be more willing to bite and speculate if The First Ones weren’t just Macro Titans (like the Keepers are Micro Titans).

Turtles All the Way Down? No thanks.

I do agree something is up with Life that has yet to play out properly. I don’t think Eonar is going to get a heel turn. Aman’Thul is very clearly being painted as the rotten one, and current team loves loves loves telling the story of competent woman replacing incompetent man. There is obviously something up with the roots of Elun’ahir, however. I’m half expecting us to be beaten over the head with the idea that Aman’Thul ripping it out was an overbearing douche thing to do, but it gets corrupted by the Black Blood and becomes a huge problem (to prove him right despite wanting to paint him as wrong). I dunno. Fractals and Odyn and divided cosmos garblegarbledead.

wild speculation shadowlands will be retconned away

While your creativity is impressive, I think you’re doing the writers’ job for them.

Yay

We never should have gone to the true afterlife. If they want to retcon the shadowlands to be like a realm between reality and the true afterlife then sure

Hell, they could have taken us to another world that’s been overtaken by death magic instead

I have the perfect thing. Emerald dream. Shadowlands is the Gray Dream now. Emerald Dream even had creatures come back to life through it, like Cenarius. We wouldn’t know why Kael and some others ended up in the Shadowlands instead of passing on directly but oh well.
