Long story short I just bough my 639 pvp weapon with conquest points just to realize a few min later, that I got some free weapon tokens in my mail lol. So basically I just threw away 1950 points for nothing.
It might be obvious to some but for a new player, that just feels so random. Why would there be even option to buy a weapon if you can get them for free past certain point. Please explain cause this seems ridiculous

That is annoying hopefully they will put some kind of message when you try to buy a weapon like “hey are you sure you want to buy this you get one free one”

Unfortunate timing for you 
You can’t buy weapons for conquest until you get the achievement, which mails you tokens and also allows you to buy other weapons.
So it was in that small window where you earned the achievement and then checked the mailbox that you purchased the weapon. That sucks

This is a very valid complaint OP and anyone else who comes in here to tell you otherwise is gaslighting you
Blizzard isn’t perfect (really far from it tbh) and feedback like this can only help for future iterations, so thanks for sharing but not much you can do about it

They really should disable weapon purchases with conquest until you spend/use your tokens.

Definitely something that should be changed. As if this game isn’t complicated enough.
You should get 1600 and should have the currency items automatically put into your bags immediately, or at least give some kind of a warning/chat bubble announcement. Why it has to go through the mail system is beyond me when there’s already existing precedent for earning an achievement->having an item appear in your inventory (the only exception being if your inventory is full).
Try opening a ticket and see if you can get refunds. This is a pretty big issue and puts your character way behind the gear curve - note this in your ticket.

Yeah, them disabling weapon purchases until you get your tokens would be preferable. The free weapon(s) is a great idea and I hope they continue with it, but it isn’t the most apparent or intuitive thing regardless of how long you’ve played unless you’ve been keeping up with blue posts. 
On the bright side they’re uncapping conquest in a few weeks so you won’t be behind for long.

Luckily it’s really late in season so it shouldn’t hinder you too badly. Same thing happened to everyone who crafted weapons first week when they saw their quest weapon had wrong stats. The people who waited, and eventually got tokens to get the desired weapons, came out several pieces of gear ahead
The approach to the 2500 conq wep is just half assed. They started with a pickup quest that people would forget or not know to get, but at least the quest was there to tempt you into it… Now its an achievement that returning players literally have no clue about. Nothing tells you that this exists.
Bottom line is that its garbage b/c blizz put it in via existing systems, quests / achievements, rather than figuring out a way to do it ‘right’. It would have been fine as a quest if it just auto popped up the second that you enter any level 80 pvp, or as soon as you hit 80. whatever works, but this version is garbo!
Were like 1 month into the season, it’s probably only 1/3 or less done, I wouldn’t call it “really late into the season”
We’re 7 weeks in.
