Why WoW is going down hill, its really very simple

I was watching this video,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34RPwDfLpKg&t=437s

and he brought up Activision - Blizzard 2020 finances and in there you will find,

in 2020 WoW made $186m more then 2019 due to the high success of Shadowlands sales

in 2020 Call of Duty made $1.7 BILLION more then 2019

But wait this is misleading because who’s to say WoW isn’t making Billions (they are not btw) so here is this breakdown for one month

December 31 2020 Blizzard made $29m to Activision $128m

There is a few key points that you should take away from this,

1 - MMO games, in general, is a niche genre and is absolutely dwarfed by other game genre’s

2 - Free to play games have taken over

3 - WoW is not important to Activision - Blizzard

WoW will never get better because there is no value in making WoW better because you all (my sub ends in a few days) keep on buying the filth they make and they will keep on making filth because WoW isn’t worth fixing

And yet FFXIV generates about the same amount of income as WoW does and yet that game doesn’t seem to be going down the toilet…

It’s almost like the people in charge of making each game brings a different philosophy of game design into the mix.

One that works

And one that doesn’t.

I’m explaining why a company like Activision - Blizzard will not bother to invest into WoW

This just in: Thing thats not important to someone suffers, news at 11:00

To be clear, free to play “gotcha” games are taking over. People are willing to dump thousands into the “best” gear or characters that lasts 2 weeks… waiting for the idiots to finally realize they are being idiots… crap, that hasn’t happened yet?

If you look at overall numbers, it’s proof that WoW isn’t about “where can we bring in more money”, and they are constantly trying new things to engagae people instead. If you want more bag space in FFXIV, you get to pay $2 per month for it… WoW could have done that, instead they gave us void storage, a transmog system which lets you have EVERYTHING you have ever collected, etc. They give us nicities at no extra cost. Other companies? They charge for it.

Candy Crush is also a billion dollar game… which do you think is easier to sustain?

The issue pure and simple is that Blizzard doesn’t respect our time as gamers.

I don’t need additional chores to keep me logging on. They just make me not want to play.

I used to use my downtime to play other games, or farm mounts, or transmog, etc. Now WoW is basically turning into a full time job, at a time when most of us are getting old enough to have real responsibilities (so less game time).

ActiBlizz doesn’t care about WoW as it’s small potatoes in their portfolio of games among Activision, King, and Blizzard (Blizz is runt of the litter among those three). Square Enix, on the other hand, seems to genuinely support FFXIV, likely because it’s their best-selling title per VideoGameSales Wiki. It’s almost like the people at the executive level support the game that makes them the most money. For ActiBlizz that’s Call of Duty, but for Square Enix that’s FF.

Software sales

  1. Final Fantasy: 154.5 million (54 titles)[1]
  2. Dragon Quest: 81 million (29 titles)[2]
  3. Tomb Raider: 77 million (30 titles)[2]
  4. Kingdom Hearts: 30 million (9 titles)
  5. Mana: 12.3 million (7 titles)[n 1]
  6. SaGa: 9.9 million (12 titles)[11]
  7. Hitman: 8 million (5 titles) (only the titles from Eidos and Square Enix)
  8. Chrono: 5.42 million (2 titles)[n 2]
  9. Drakengard/Nier: 5.33 million (5 titles)[n 3]
  10. Legacy of Kain: 3.5 million (5 titles)[18]
  11. Space Invaders: 2.53 million (le)[19]

there was a lot of hype for Shadowlands which explains the good sales numbers right when it came out. Most people were disgruntled with how BFA turned out and really wanted to play Shadowlands… now its just keep you logged in simulator.

Do you realize how much people have paid for WoW? Let us look at the lowest possible amount spent by a 17 year subscriber.

$60 base game.
$40 xpac x 8 = $320
$13 monthly sub using 6 month sub = $156/y * 17 = $2652
So that is $3032 for the cheapest version. Toss in cash shop, CEs, not using 6 month sub, and you have people who easily spent $4,000+ on WoW.

Sub for FF14 is the exact same, they still pay extra. Oh, not to mention, things like housing? yeah… you stop subbing, you lose of it. WoW lets you take breaks at no loss of anything in game.

What are they paying for in FF14 that WoW gives for free?

Hmmm, I wonder why giant publisher Activision made more money than large developer Blizzard…hmmmmm.

The brothel MG free. Candy crush obviously best game and you say acti is stupid yet they bought king. Cod obvious moneymaker still. So idk mmo survivability is kind of trash considering wow is the only one who survived and stayed relevant the recent mmos are quite laughable and as always fail to garbage levels of people playing or dead.

Bit of a dishonest outlook. Void Storage is worthless, and you most definitely don’t need to pay for extra retainers unless you’re an utter slob about your inventory and somehow collect that much trash that you can’t bear to part with. (I play, and I know. You won’t, unless you think random trash is worth keeping.)

Over 17 years.

If you bought a $5 coffee once a week for 17 years you’ve have spent $4,420.00 just in coffee.

Now imagine the same people who spend $5 on coffee everyday. Or lets say every weekday for work/school. That’s $22,100.00 on coffee. Anything you habitually spend money on can sound drastic over long timelines.

Uh, if one of my … idk what to call Blizz in relation to Activision … if one of my partners was making a bit over a fifth of the rest of the company I’d be pretty happy with them

Take of the rose tinted glasses. WoW at this very moment, takes less time commitment than WoW ever has.

I’m not saying this isn’t true, but do you have a link or something to back up your claim?
