I just finished the quest The Black Blade, bringing it to Sylvanas.
Could someone tell me why, as a follower of Saurfang since I don’t trust Sylvanas, I would bring such an evil weapon to her???
That is the most stupid thing they’ve had me do in this stupid story…
/sigh

Thanks for the power weapon foot soldier, now go man the trenches before they get overrun by evil dwarves and wicked little gnomies.
If you didn’t want to give her the blade, then why did you? Are you sure that it was by your own will that you did? Are you sure that there wasn’t a certain old god possibly compelling you?

Maybe we hoped she’d get trapped inside it, or like a nasty paper cut.
Agreed. It would be better if Nathanos had come in and grabbed the dagger and saying he would “take care of this”.

Almost as if the weapon speaks with another voice. Another purpose… You feel a compulsion to bring this artifact to the warchief.
“Compulsion” being the key word there.

Same reason, as a follower of the true Warchief, I have to free that useless rack of ribs leader of the once-proud Tauren.

Blizzard values our “Player Agency”
Also you can’t have my Knaifu Sylvie! Go get your own Knaifu!

The weapon more or less forces you to carry it to her. It is the will of an Old God that you are not yet able to resist completely.

Can’t you decline the quest?
I have a hard time with this kind of plotting, as well. In my own head-cannon, if an act is totally out of character for what I know my character would do, I imagine that they aren’t the ones on that actual quest - rather, it occurs, but they hear about it first or second hand from/about the heros (or dupes, or mooks) who actually achieve it.
I am pleased not to have been around for the War of Thorns and the Teldrassil fiasco. I similarly absent my characters from lore events they wouldn’t participate in.
