Why will other legacy class tier sets not be unlocked for transmog?

So with Warbands, I know a lot of people are upset that not allowing transmog to unlock for tier sets when you obtain them on another class is a terrible decision.
I originally thought the transmog change would make it so I could just run the old raids with 1 character and get the tier sets. But if they don’t, whats the point in the change in the first place?
At least make the tier tokens Warbound then.
I was so excited to unlock the tier sets without running them 100x with each class, but that got ruined quick.

You can’t nor should you try to.

My bet would be that class tokens make it messier to do than for regular drops since they’re not actual gear; they just turn into gear based on your class. If that is the reasoning, I suppose they could’ve let us collect the early sets that were actual gear but its probably easier to just draw the line at all of them for now.

I guess I’m not most people because I’m ok with the change that is coming, as it is. It’s a HUGE step.

But many old raids were patched to actually drop the gear instead of class tokens, which makes them awful for collecting now since instead of a 1/3 chance of getting your token, you have a 1/12 chance of getting the right item.

I don’t get it either. Honestly, for most sets that have lookalikes - which they started in what, Cata? - I would just make the tier versions not class locked any more. It’s not like other classes can’t get the appearances, this would just make it slightly more convenient.

Thing is, everything from Wrath to WoD no longer drops tokens in the first place. You just get random 1/12 piece of gear. It’s pretty silly to keep this restriction for stuff like that.

Now, if they were going to re-implement tokens in legacy raids, I don’t think I’d mind it so much. At least they might vendor for more than old gear does these days…

If I’m not mistaken, look alike gear count towards its corresponding tier set it looks like so you will still be able to do this, just not with their tier tokens outright.

even in DF the look alike gear counts towards the tier set i’ve had this happen on multiple alts this xpack.

so whats the point of alts if u aint gonna do something on them.

its good that u still gotta earn tier on the respective class

also prevents people from needing tier in current content for alts

I don’t think many look at previous tier armor as an achievement anymore. Maybe in the past we did.
I would find it to make sense if inside a legacy raid, that is would be simple to just make all the tier Warbound or just unlock the appearance.
I certainly don’t care about current tier, nor should that unlock, but for the early tiers in WoW, some people have to clear the same raid over 100 times to get their entire set, on 1 class. I have been running Blackwing Lair for years on my paladin alt, and I still don’t have the entire set. But I bet I 5 other full tier sets have dropped for me since.

Off sets and other pieces exist. Many tier sets are tokens. The pieces have a coded restriction. It’s a coding issue they talked about. Not an arbitrary decision.

Yea, I thought they’d make it so I can play SoO safely on a mage without the fear of having the shoulders or shaman set drop. :frowning:

Because a lot of tier set appearances can be picked up that aren’t class restricted. For example:

This appearance can be gathered by any cloth wearer, since there is a look-alike set:

That is a totally reasonable ask, but I doubt they’ll do it.

The main issue is the earlier tiers. Tiers 1-6 for sure are gear drops only and are the real pain in the butt, with no alternative to unlock it.

If it’s a tech perspective they could of easily made it so that if you loot a token that isn’t for your class that you can still convert it to the class specific set item. There’s no reason that item couldn’t or shouldn’t be learned. In this regard, they could keep the same roll restrictions in place.

At least as far back as Wrath. The upgraded set that you get from the DK starting zone is available to all plate wearers: https://www.wowhead.com/transmog-set=1349/saronite-war-battleplate-lookalike

So, this leaves out tiers 1-7 as class-locked. The MC sets, all the way to the revamped Naxx are mostly unavailable outside of their class, other than with recolors.

i think he does speak for some. Don’t be rude.
