Oh, just that little annoying thing nations do called Being diplomatic. Helps when you want to keep people around as allies
The Alliance has always been more then that:
“You never really understood, did you? It is our loyalty to our friends that provides our truest, greatest strength. This is what separates us from the ogres and troggs—and even the goblins. This is why the dwarves helped us back from near extinction, even surrendering a portion of their hallowed halls for us to call home. And this is why there are dwarves, humans, draenei, and night elves dying alongside us in the surrounding tunnels to reclaim a city that was never theirs. They are here because they are our friends, Sicco. My friends. It is a power that numbers cannot match.”-Gelbin
This is not a comparison situation, we know the alliance’s races have done things and support one another. What we are talking here is how that is portrait to the players and how it is sold.
The horde is the faction that they sell as a family of broken ppl that in the end of the day support each other through the dark days.
The alliance is sold as the golden family of enlightened ppl with almost no flaws. Unfortunately this kind of family doesn’t feel real or have any real appeal to this matter( be part of a family).
But yeah I know blues do have a heart deep down somewhere near their strongest muscle.
And like it or not that is how the devs realize the Alliance are as well. That they are also a family. I recall how I felt pretty vindicated when one of the devs just outright admitted it.
And I think there are families like that too. Look, the Alliance is not perfect, hence why it is having or had issue with the night elves. It doesn’t mean its not valid. Sorry, but there are family that are generally supportive and help each other even when they get on each other nerves. I would argue that is actually a good majority rather then an exception.
Not as popular anymore, as seen on forums and among WoW commentators, more people are sick and tired of seeing them, even those who want to use them as story punching bags. It shows a lack of creativity or agenda to keep trotting out the same cliches (like Hollywood’s obsession with Third Reich villains while zealously avoiding any communist villains).
I really wasn’t referring to forums. as opposed to ingme roleplay Scarlet themed guilds, etc.
I still say their popularity there has declined too.
RP servers suggest otherwise. There’s 5 different scarlet guilds on Moonguard alone.
Has that number changed from earlier times? Will they still be popular if Blizzard keeps using the Scarlet Crusade as nothing more than punching bags?
It’s been pretty consistent really. It usually hovers around 2-5 guilds at any given time. Sometimes Scarlet Crusade guilds explodes in popularity and than die off soon after. But they always had a presence on RP servers.
And of course they’ll still be popular, regardless of what blizz does with them. Some people use the Crusade as a vehicle to justify their horrible IRL beliefs against others, so that’s why they’re like cockroaches, you can never really get rid of all of them
Do any of those guilds have players using non-human races?
2-to-5 Scarlet RP guilds out of 224 alliance guilds doesn’t equal popular. There’ll be people who like them. I see more people using them as substitutes for targets of their IRL prejudices than using the Scarlet Crusade itself as a vehicle to justify IRL prejudices (especially since the Scarlet Crusade lack sexism and skin-color based racism against other humans).
Even, using them as substitutes for someone IRL for a power fantasy has its limits. And theirs draws ever closer.
On RP realms, maybe 1 in 5 guilds are actually RP-focused around a theme. 80% of guilds are either generic, casual RP or non-RP guilds with some RPers, or just purely normal raiders/pvpers.
So yeah, 2 to 5 guilds being focused on a single theme is actually going to be pretty popular. Then you have to factor in how populated those guilds are compared to other guilds, how active the participants are, etc. And that’s without bringing up individual unguilded Scarlet RPers.
Scarlet RP might not be the plague-levels of the Cataclysm era, but they’re still pretty popular. Scarlet RP and Stormwind Guard RP are constants.
Varian got better. Garrosh was axed for the sake of it. We all know Blizzard ain’t treating bot sides fairly.
Well it makes more sense when you remember which one of those two is voiced by Metzen
Metzen voiced so many characters that this is kinda funny.
But… Thrall still lives.
While I understand where you’re coming from, looking back, there’s a lot of gaps in our discussion. Like the guild’s populations, and what are the names of these Scarlet RP guilds? Exactly how many are there?
Yep. And his latest foray into voice-acting is Iridikron.
It did feel pretty short, but at least you got your city back. Sigh…someday Suramar….someday…
This is so weird, are people who RP as Man’ari Eredar doing so to be barely repentant genocidal maniacs? Why do people act so weird about scarlets in general LOL.
Ask the weirdos who justify their own racism by using a fictional racist organization
I don’t know why weirdos do the stupid things they do
Because unlike red drainos, Scarlets have real world analogs amoung real world people. They work pretty well as a white supremacist group analog, so they can be pretty attractive to people looking to dip their toes in that.
