I imagine it took at lot of time and its likely tricky to make a narrative for every single class that comes together.
To be frank I like dragon flight but the reason for the players involvement in the dragon civil war isn’t really that strong.

They still exist. Nothing to stop them being utilised in the future. As for why they were “abandoned” narratively… Well we all went to war with one another. It made the club houses feel a bit tense.
Just because that’s how it’s been doesn’t mean that’s how it has to be. Asking why class halls have been phased out is a valid question. They could add a lot to the game, even now.
Blizzard has already shown they’re going back to the well, with expanded timewalking, cata M+, Mage Tower, etc. Bringing back other aspects of the game from previous expansions is not out of the question.
They could save a lot of time by not creating a new long campaign for every class.
The mount quest was exactly the same for every class.
Too intensive on resources, probably.
They literally abandoned wod to work on Legion.
Class Halls and Garrisons were a lot of fun. They felt (especially the garrison) like a true immersive reward. Seeing all the followers, being able to change the guards, unlocking more music, new buildings. So much fun!
I’m hoping that we’ll get a kind of expansion to the garrison but something a bit different. Like one garrison per faction, per server. You can level alts via the command table, even have your alts as followers.
Every expansion “feature” is abandoned as they produce the next expansion. It’s ridiculous. Imagine what kind of world we would have if they built on the features each expansion rather than rewriting every system?
This is one of my biggest gripes about wow.
It’s absolute insane if you think about it. They throw money out of the window for new ideas instead building on things which have been fan favorites.
And I also never understood how they could permanently change the mission tables. The ones during Legion were simple and the best. I absolutely disliked the Shadowland tables for how much unnecessary information was put in.
Instead of having a new game every expansion they should have really been focusing on expanding the game every expansion since they started adding new stuff in WoD.
From vanilla up to MoP it was basically same old same old, here are some dungeons and raids, rep and rewards, there was nothing really new, but with WoD they gave us garrisons and mission tables, the tables continued, but so should have the garrisons and turned it into an expanding feature where you can move your town, make more buildings that fit the new expansion.
Legion gave us callings, that continued for 2 more expansions with mission tables, but they never really done anything new with them. Legion had the first real borrowed power, BFA expanded on that, SL even further, but again it wasn’t anything new, just they made it more cumbersome to do the content. They should have made an entirely new gearing system so we didn’t have to carry so much crap around and make borrowed power like our HoA into more pieces where we can obtain power, store it in our item and change it around as needed.
There is so much they could have expanded on to make the old systems so much better, but they never did, they made them worse just so they can increase our /played time, then came DF and everything was scraped and a whole new talent system was made, that’s a big waste of resources over the years.
I miss mission tables and dailies so bad!!
Technically, they weren’t. Just like Garrisons, they were designed as a feature of a single expansion. When legion was done, so were the class halls.
Maybe they can be expanded in the future, but I doubt it. Very little that was new or innovative gets carried forward to new expansions.
If they had off looked at each expansion as an extension of the game instead of an entirely new thing, they could have slowly expanded on everything and made the game grow over time, that might have worked better for all new systems they introduced.
They should have gone back at the end of each expansion, fixed the stuff that was broken, and changed it so it would be evergreen content - at least for entertainment purposes.
To be fair the Class Halls were basically abandoned after the initial launch story. lol
Because the problem with Blizzard implementing new features is to them, features are expac-bound, so once the expac is no longer relevant, neither is whatever feature.
Some of the features may be abandoned due to community feedback, but 9/10 times, simply put, the feature is shelved because “expac is no longer current.”
At least the mission tables, the one of the three examples I least liked, stuck around for four expansions. Class halls could have easily fit in, and added depth and colour to the in-game experience.
Could’ve, should’ve, would’ve. I agree with your statement. Hopefully Blizzard takes that mentality going forward like they said they would. It would make for a better game in the long run.
I am not a big fan of the Dragonriding mechanics but they are popular so hopefully they move forward while giving others the option of standard flight. It would be a good feature to take forward and they have proven again that they can actually create an expansion with flight being a large consideration.
Heck, I even like that in the Forbidden Reach, that more of the rares are in caves and require some exploration. Though, I know some players aren’t fans of this change. Maybe Blizzard can come to a better balance in the future and improve maps to help people get to find rares.
Because it was from a different expansion. And blizzard seems to have a gun to their head forbidding them from every carrying over expansion gameplay content. Someone please help them.
They were always just meant to be an expansion specific thing.
This is when evergreen philosophy for such content was pretty non existent.
Same reason they abandoned garrisons and other expansion features. They want to reinvent the wheel every expansion.
