Why we should skip Classic Cata

Hey everyone!

Was thinking about the upcoming WoTLK classic release and excited to come back! One of the biggest joys of Classic (Vanilla Classic? Lol) was the even playing ground that we all leveled on. I remember countless stories of quests that people would help random strangers on, just because. Yes there was a race, but the majority of players leveled up together.

Today we all know what to expect - a massive push of the top geared players push to level 80 and possibly the first raid kill, in which they have earned every piece of gear they wear! However, I believe it might have taken away that fruitful leveling component we had before - community.

So why skip Cata?

Well, it wasn’t exactly the prime of WoW. Not hating on any of the developers, but the it just didn’t exactly hit the mark or hype for a lot of people.

But that’s not really why - a skip like this, boosting of everyone to 85 and giving moderate gear to all would almost feel like a true reset, like we’re all coming back to MoP together. No it won’t be the same as vanilla Classic (economy will forever be different), but it might be a version of it.

I recognize not all share my opinion. More than happy to hear sides against this, just please be respectful. Hope everyone has a great time in WoTLK!

Some of WoW best raiding too place in Cata. Maybe we could meet in the middle and have a speed-up Cata. Double the loot from bosses, 1 year long xpac.

In terms of an expansion it was average but it certainly did not have any stand out features or genre defining moments.

What if we just let it stay wrath and develop content to it?
Btw if your whole argument is based on the fact cata lost players, you also cant advocate for panda which lost just as many lmao. Every panda fan is delusional.

meanwhile every other topic in general chat is arguing LFR stuff.

I think LFR was very good for the game and certainly was a genre defining moment. Players should be able to log into the game experience the story (essentially LFR is congruent to the “story mode” game difficulty of single player titles where combat is scaled right back) and that is fine.

I still don’t get why blizzard detest that kind of player and have the neckbeard 1990s style “no you are playing our game wrong you need to earn it” mentality.

If they want to skip cata and go right to MoP I wouldn’t mind  challenge mode dungeons again please!

Cata had better content than MoP. You may not agree with my opinion, but it’s an equally valid opinion. Why should those that like cata get skipped over just because someone else liked mop a bit more?

Mostly the people who want Cata Classic are those who missed out on, and if they want to play it and pay for a sub to do so, Blizzard will do it for them. Timewalking and Hype/Talk about old expansions and the FOMO and the new generation, is what is really fueling the wotlk+ classic expansion talk from Blizzard.

If you don’t want to play Cata again then don’t, personally I’m on wotlk and was on tbc for fun since it has been so long since then, but Cata+ raiding is still fresh in my mind and the thought of redoing all of them again isn’t for me so I just won’t play it. Even though I think Firelands was one of the coolest raids to do during current content, and Heroic Ragnaros is still one of the hardest bosses I’ve ever done.

At this point Blizzard is just going to re-release every single expansion and there is going to be two different versions of WoW, so enjoy Wotlk while it lasts(for probably the last time ever) and go actually play the game.

I don’t think we should skip cataclysm classic. But we should provide permanent realm options for players who want it.

For example, i am kind of skeptical of playing wrath classic now. The cloning service for classic wow has been retired now. Just found this out.

We never got permanent classic bc servers.

I mean, we might not ever get permanent wrath classic servers to.

My point is, at least provide options for different classic server eras. If they force everyone to move forward, that is just a bad system all around.

Cata was good content, as wrote on the other thread, most compelling reason for a reboot would be to include all the things that were cut to make launch on time. The new zones I liked very much, the trashing of the nelf zones not at all. I wondering how much ppl remember of the actual content - because even normal 5 player dungeons were challenging. Everyone whinged that WotLK was ‘too easy’, and Blizz went right: here’s some BC level crowd control for your enjoyment. (It was enjoyable to me) But it needed all the raid markers because sheep, sap, hunter trap were all being used on most pulls in heroic at least. (ppl then evacuated cos it was ‘too hard’)

I honestly feel like cataclysm deleted alot of the charm of the old version. The old overworld for example.

I will probably play cataclysm classic. But not if i don’t get permanent wrath classic realms. I probably will be done with wow at that point.

Losing options is what is driving folks away i think. And cataclysm did delete alot of options and content from the game.

According to who. You? Cata heroics and raids were solid. That’s not a reason.

So you want people to lose all their progression. Why? Couldn’t keep up from Vanilla to WoTLK? Not our problem.

No thanks. I want to play cataclysm. It had excellent raids, the talents were great, the classes were in good places overall. Just because YOU want to skip to MoP doesn’t mean others do not want to. Your reasoning is shallow at best.

People who want to play cata onward are just restarting themselves back to 2004 but 15 years older. Just play dragonflight, because you’ve already played every expansion except the new one. That way you’ll save yourself 7 more years of reruns before you get to dragonflight

Let’s skip cata and everything after and build off of wrath in the direction retail didn’t go

Open fresh servers for each expansion after wrath is done, let people decide which expansion they wish to live in.

I vote we skip wrath if people want to “skip” expansion now. It’s not needed, since you know, we have it in retail.

Agreed, these retail expansions are just delays to Classic+. Bring on Classic Era Phase 7!

Not going to participate to anything related to classic after wotlk,
Was an amazing time but its time to try something NEW
