It doesn’t make much sense that blizzard has removed what made arena fair. I enjoy PvP far more than PvE and it’s frustrating that I’m at a major disadvantage because I don’t put as much time into PvE as do other players. Gearing is a grind, and although I’m getting better gear the improvements are meager and grinding azerite is monotonous.
Why did they remove this? Is there any good reason?

Because people like Abom wanted gear to matter. Which would of been fine if we had a WoD gearing system where our gear scaled up in PvP combat, and if everyone ended up at the same ilvl for the end of the season push.
Instead we have this RNG PvE infested garbage system. It’s a huge joke tbh and you’re not alone in your sentiments. They refuse to give us vendors, though. So I’d much rather them just put templates back in, because while they had flaws they were better than this trash.

Disappointing to hear. A completely backwards decision to appease players who like having an unfair advantage. Smh
Sorry your short grind to 120 means you can’t be at same power level as everyone instantly. xD

Because it sucks to play a spec like Arcane who rely on secondary stats to make their spec function properly only to be at the mercy of Blizzard’s inability to balance templates meaning you constantly went oom with 30+ seconds still remaining on your only reliable way to regenerate your main resource. Gear allows certain specs to perform and stat templates took control over your progression out of your hands and gave it to Holinka who failed repeatedly to demonstrate the foresight as to why a certain decision would lead to issues elsewhere.
The issue isn’t that they took templates away, the issue is that they didn’t go back to a perfect and functional system like WoD’s PvP gear system. Ilvl scaling on Honour and Conquest gear along with the catch up mechanic they implemented on Conquest removed every issue from PvP power because everyone had the equal playing field we enjoyed in Legion but allowed us to have full control over secondary stat distribution while also not breaking PvE gear progression because your gear didn’t scale unless you entered PvP combat.

Another thing that happened after stat templates were introduced was that rated PvP participation plummeted in Legion season 1, PvP no longer had any tangible rewards that weren’t cosmetic, rewards are a big reason for many people to participate in any kind of content in an MMO.

Arena participation is garbage when stat template is in, the game is doing fine before Legion introduced template.
BFA is doing bad but stat template isn’t the reason, even if they introduced template Gpy still hit for 35%, Necrotic still add 8% absorb and Mana rift still burn for 8%.

People wanted to be able to customize their stats and use trinkets again. The problem is blizzard missed a major point in what made gear fair in PvP, which is vendors to target specific slots and specific stats.

I don’t have as much time as I’d like to play, so that short grind is actually a long grind that took me 18ish hours. That’s just the start, now that I’m 120 I’m having to put tons of hours into something that I’d prefer not to do (PvE) in order to have a chance at what I play to do.
gear should matter imo
To a small extent yeah, but not to the overwhelming extent of which it is being allowed right now.

This is a good solution considering it satisfies both wants of gear mattering and making it fair. I get that classes are affected negatively by a single template and this could be a fix, but this is far from how it is now and that needs to change.

Those numbers are not the ones to be concerned with - the fact that you can do thousands of more dps than someone less geared than you is the issue.

dont worry we got the 1550 achieve… keep grinding
It’s always a delicate situation, this debate. Sure, in a purely competitive pvp setting, gear should be normalized to rely solely on skill as much as possible. No one disputes this.
Issue is that WoW arena isn’t OW, it isn’t DOTA, it’s not smash, it’s an MMO. MMOs exist as the staple of an RPG; the entire premise is to make a character and live that character. You put in the work, you put in the time to get the gear, the levels, you search for those low drop rates, it’s what enticed people to play in the first place. Thing is now, WoW is so old that people who arena just want to arena. They no longer play wow for the mmo and just want to participate in fair competition.
Arena is not a large population of the playerbase though and not all pvpers even agree in the template idea. Bahjeera even made a video saying that as an mmo, you should stomp people if you’ve put in the time. If you play more, and you put in more work, you should be rewarded. Many people feel this way. Not everyone, but you can’t please everyone anyway.
More often than not, gear will matter. If your complaint is that you don’t have much time to play, that’s just not what an mmo usually caters to. Now of course vendors SHOULD be added. There’s many adjustments that can and should be made. I’m not trying to advocate for bliz and say they made the right call. Just explaining why templates aren’t in. They’re probably just trying to find that balance of good pvp while still retaining an mmo feel. Standardizing pvp ilvl while giving full control over secondaries would satisfy this for many I think. Of course you’ll run into the issue of everyone will run the same stuff but in the end… everyone strives to anyway so… haha. Doesn’t really matter I guess.

How many times does this have to be repeated? Gear should matter and people wanted it back but not under this rng bs umbrella, just the old conquest point system.

Nicely put! I must say. Only thing I might add that this season is special, especially because of how many tiers there are to the ilvl gear these days.
Gear should matter, but pve gear shouldn’t work in PvP, or at least cap the ilevel and restrict trinket effects. Also the way we obtain gear shouldn’t be random. Templates would have been okay if players didn’t have increased hp from having more artifact traits in legion. But the problem with templates was having 0 control over what stats you want your character to prioritize. And the lack of pvp trinkets made it dull.

There are always those spam chats in Trade that you could rely on…
Template would work if they give stat load out choices for players to choose. But current dev team has low IQ.

How so? I was able to pvp on all four of my chars instead of just working on on char?
You’re right, WOW is a MMO, just like GW2 is a MMO. Therefore gear and abilities should be completely equalized in PVP (as it is in GW2 – a MMO).
