This reminds me of some of the signs I saw at the riots 2 summers ago. “Words are violence”. Was the first time I was compelled to ask for more information. Shockingly I got nothing of value.

Which translated means, anything that would make them look bad from a PR perspective because of the lawsuit about the Blizzard workplace culture.
because some blizzard employees couldn’t control their behavior, or conversely, they took normal sleeping around way way too far — regardless of what it was, it was a publick embarrisment for the company
and removing /spit and /funny is supposed to be somehow making up for it

Idk, when I roll a new DK alt I still get spit on by the SW guards while walking through town. 
WoW is becoming this weird boring mix of “I’m offended” folks and “Things used to be fun” people.

I didn’t use it for mount buyers, but I sure as hell got some use out of it on gankers who killed my lowbie and made me pop on my main.

Me and my Tauren friends have NO way to bathe now, the stench is getting awful! Let me be clear, every single Tauren you see on the forums and in game uses this method of hygiene.

From what I recall, its because a large streamer encouraged people to spit on anyone who bought store mounts and some people were taking it very far to the point that something had to be done about it.

They tried to implement a mask in the game that would meet CDC guidelines but couldn’t. Removing the /spit emote was the only way to control Covid-19 in-game.

Seems childish and something that would be reportable. Borderline harassment. People are free to spend their $$ how they choose.
I can’t speak for others, but I have 1 mount off of the cash shop, and I do recall someone doing the /spit at me. I had zero clue why they were doing it so I didn’t report it. I just thought they were being weird.
I think this really only gained traction because there were some popular youtubers advocating for people to do it.
pixel spit is very dangerous… a health hazard
a certain infamous streamer encouraged people to use /spit to harass people he didn’t like.
I see the removal of targeted spit as more a message to him to stop being an ahole more anything else.
A lot of the other “rude” emotes continuing to be targeted makes it clear that /spit itself wasn’t the issue.
