No, it was done for the elites who were mad that 10 man groups were getting raid gear, even when it was lower item level than 25 man.
Blizzard killed casual raiding, and tried to use LFR later to bandaid the chest wound.

Wrath babies couldnât handle it.
I personally think the hate was a bit unfair in hindsight, as since then, Blizzard has consistently redefined what a bad expansion should be.
The one thing I absolutely hated was that I was supposed to accept Thrall as a neutral party, as an Alliance character. He had been Warchief of the Horde for all of WoW and just because he decided to quit, Iâm supposed to do errands and work for him? Iâm supposed to dive into his past with his wife and work on his issues?
It made no sense to me and feels like the whole story was written for Horde characters, but Alliance characters needed something, so they just let Alliance players do it too.
you sound like a casual sympathizer.
I thought launch Cataclysm was great. Awesome zones (even Vashâjir), fun dungeons, fun raids, I had no complaints.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut Blizzard had spent the last two years lowering the bar for group content and having challenging 5-mans and raids again was a huge blow to the community as a whole. Also it seems most people have no concept of 3D space and couldnât handle an underwater zone.
Dev âThis dungeon REQUIRES Crowd control mechanics.â
also Devs âLul, we will make sure your party finder matches you with others who have no CC abilities, then tell you its your own fault!â
I didnât think Cata was really hated.
Meh. Dungeons were hard at first, but they were fun (in my opinion). I vaguely recall enjoying the End Times one. I think. Either way, I enjoyed CCing pulls a lot more than trying to mash my AOE button as hard as I can.
Firelands was a great raid. Folks didnât enjoy Dragon Soul as much - but on a very dead server my guild was fighting for (and got) server-first for it, so I probably have a more positive view than it deserves. Bastion and Nefarian were pretty decent raids imo (but I remember BoT had some bugginess which takes away from it).
Downsides?
I never got a âhatedâ vibe personally.
it wasnât as hated as everyone here claims everything is hated i never really seen no one complaining about the dungeons either cause i thought most people just grouped with whomever to get em done. dragon soul was a hated raid i do remember alot complaining about it but it wasnât that bad. didnât they actually have the guild achievements thing during cata to something blizz could of really learned something from cause they ainât did jack for guilds in forever.
Bro you are completely wrong on this and have it backwards. The bosses on 25 man were a complete joke, and 10 man heroic required you to have a picture perfect comp that changed from boss to boss. The most infamous case of this is Halfus where the fight on 25 man was easier than most Normal fights, but on 10 man it was one of the hardest fights ever because both sizes still required four interrupts, two of which were necessary on classes that had something to break a stun to get that silence, like a mage.
Or the Wind Council fight requiring you to have a frost mage that was using unoptimized gear for DPS and a niche spec that was just outright bad for pulling damage, but that deep freeze NEEDED to crit, on top of a pretty rough timer early on. This is something you can stomach in a 25 man without issue, in 10 man however itâs a lot larger of an ask because one player pulling near nil damage for an entire fight is a bigger burder to 9 people than it is to 24.
What, you linking a kill video? Dude, I actually progressed 10 and 25 man in Cataclysm. It was a NIGHT AND DAY difference. Did you ever experience Heroic progression in the first tier in both sizes? 25 man guilds outpaced the hell out of 10 man guilds because the fights were so much easier. AlâAkir is the one niche exception because of platform limitations, however this is no different than Gruul world first being done with kicking players out of the raid for the same exact reason to handle the shatter mechanic. Guilds in TBCC pre-nerf did this exact thing too.
It was enough of a problem Blizzard themselves even addressed it as a monumental mistake for requiring the same amount of mechanics in 10 and 25 when one has TWO AND A HALF TIMES THE AMOUNT OF PLAYERS FOR THESE THINGS.
i was a recruiting officer. you were just a guy pressing fireball. we are not the same.
Itâs because I wasnât there ![]()
I was busy playing RIFT, SWTOR and Huttball.
Oh, I see. You werenât allowed in the raids. xD No wonder you have zero idea how the difference between 10 and 25 panned out. I was in Vigil at the time, surely if you know anything of Cataclysm you remember our guild name.
it panned out with 92% mortality for 25man guilds. also, you can check the chieves.
same cant be said about you.
your lies are disrespectful and insulting to those who have actually played back then.
Completely false. This only happens if youâre counting guilds going into 10 man under the delusion they could kick the 15 deadweights and be just the best of the guild and ascend to prominence only to be kicked in the face when they realized Heroic fights on 10 man were a joke, and the 15 âdeadweightsâ were bosses ahead of them with less effort.
This was the same phenomenon we saw when raids went from 40 to 25 man.
I did, Cataclysm released very late 2010. Your achievements for the Heroic first tier are 2012 for actually clearing Alâakir, basically after Dragon Soul was released. Took your guild 3 weeks after downing Shannox in Firelands who was a spoonfeed fight to down Rhyolith who was another joke of a boss.
Then an entire month to down a boss with actual mechanics. Whew, big player.
Oh woah woah woah, BIG PLAYER HERE, only took you FOUR MONTHS to down Valiona and Theralion.
25man guilds going to 10mans counts. as the 25man guilds are no longer 25man guild.
qed.
My computer is bigger than yours.
You both lose. ![]()
No, youre just flat wrong. The Devs litterly apologized for overtuning the 10 mans at the time. They sated themselves at the time that the 10 mans were too hard. They expected X amount of 10 man guilds to clear the raids, only 20% of that number did. Again, this was all told to us by the devs at the time. So either you wrent playing at the time, are trolling, or you had youre head in sand back then and wrent keeping up with the game.
you keep mentioning this imaginary fact.
show us the apology.
