Why warfronts failed

I will be honest, I liked Stromgarde especially in heroic mode, but I found the battle of darkshore…wanting…

Lack of heroic mode is a huge issue, I mean waiting until the last raid tier to have it on heroic mode is ridiculous for starters…

I admit that the the battle for Stromgarde felt like a real battle, and was epic fun, but battle for darkshore just doesn’t give me the same thrills.

So you’re saying warfronts failed because darkshore doesn’t have a heroic mode? What?

Yeah, I’m confused.
This wasn’t a coherent reason why they failed, this was just your opinion on Warfronts.

I didn’t really care for them on heroic either.

I am not sure they failed either. Sure some people complained about them but that doesn’t really mean they failed.

I personally wasn’t all that fond of them because it was too much like PvP type of content which I don’t particularly enjoy.

Warfronts failed because Blizzard didn’t have any solid plans for them beyond “Big battle over territory” until a handful of months before beta ended. There’s a reason we got 2 of all the ones we have strings for. Silvermoon, Southern Barrens, Mulgore, and Durotar off the top of my head. There are even assets for the associated Durotar remake.

They failed because there was no depth to them. They’re non-interactive, monotonous, tedious, boring slogs that could have been so much more had Blizzard invested in these as true prime expansion features. Heroic was no better than normal and it seemed clear that it was something they threw together, late, in an effort to save the content.

One of the biggest reasons they failed is they face a problem common to MANY thing in WoW now: there is nothing intuitive about them, and if you take the time to actually learn what to do… you are actively HURTING your team by taking the time to learn.

NO MULTIPLAYER GAME SHOULD HAVE SUCH A DYNAMIC.

Everything in WoW should have some sort of single-player or “offline” mode, that lets you learn at your own pace, without being a burden to your team.

I’m sick and tired of being lost in some dungeon, not knowing where to go or what to do, and have some nolifer yelling at me to “keep up” because I wasn’t born from womb knowing how to do some random crap. Everything about it is a detriment to the game AND NEEDS TO CHANGE!

They are a completely redundant idea. It was nu-blizzard trying to reinvent the wheel.

You want to tell a story? Do it in a raid, dungeon, quest or cinematic. You want players to participate in the faction war? As above, as well as PVP. You want to update the zones with new graphics? You don’t need a convoluted new game mode to do it.

The whole system of contributing to the war effort, having the zone with rares when your faction isn’t fighting, it’s just all confusing, pointless and overdesigned.

NO PVP!

I think Warfronts would’ve been better as part of the story (maybe even the War campaign) that you queue for when you reach that part of the story (like Battle for Lordareon).

Each Warfront was kinda cool the very first time you did it… but it’s when you try to farm it for gear that it became repetitive and bleh.

They failed because they’re boring, simple as that.
Blizzard sold them as something awesome and it turns out it’s just a simplified rts match against npcs, not even expeditions are that boring.

I understand and feel you here. When I first did my first warfront I was so excited. I actually like the concept of warfront actually buuut just like dungeons people just want a gogogogo mentality that is not fun for new comers. If you indeed want to learn within the game itself it is hard since people rarely bothers to guide new people. Even if you read the guide online, the fun of playing it within the game is lessened because you cannot take the time to fully enjoy the adventure in it

I think they need to make it smaller so it will feel more personal and more of an adventure. maybe 10 people max.

THIS very much

Indeed. Very good they sort of doing that next patch.

I think Warfronts would’ve done better if there was a PvP version. And for the PvE version make each battle more RNG because every one I was in was almost exactly like the last one and the one before that.

I also think Warfronts could’ve been better if they added in some old school RTS elements like giving players ranks and more troops to command the higher their rank that way it would encourage players to participate.

Problem one was I think some people like myself were expecting more of a wc3 feel but it turned out to be more like hots (it was more moba than rts). Problem two was I think it just wasn’t much fun playing the role of the peon and running around gathering supplies. Problem three and I think the biggest issue was that it was too scripted. If the npcs could try different things or react to what we were doing it might be more interesting, but the way it is designed it can only play out one way. Everything is on autopilot.

I really enjoyed Arathi, both the normal and the heroic versions.

Didn’t care that much for the Darkshore one.

Would have liked to see more. Like Hillsbrad, Hellfire, the Barrens, maybe Icecrown would have been nice.

Don’t know it failed, but I do believe that a missed opportunity was not having a pvp bracket.

Why though? Most dungeons have a normal mode which is where you learn most mechanics and warfronts are realistically solo content, because honestly you as an individual don’t really contribute all that much. Most arathi warfronts i did i spent slowly killing the elemental boss.

They’re cool but darkshore was just boring. It felt drawn out too much so for its own good. You literally get to the end and are waiting for resources for 10 minutes after the Mecha are dead
