Uhh. He literally < retired > and he’s like, partially blind and hitting the infirm part of old age if he isn’t lying during his speech interaction…
He also hands out quests to kill local wildlife still so he is still doing what he does best.
How’d he even been allowed on the Dragon Isles?
I figured there would have been a sign by this point that said “not this guy” lol

Did any of you even read the dialogue? yeah he retired, but he changed his entire philosophy and personality to be some peace loving hippy. As he himself put it “I’m a conservationist now” why?

My eyes aren’t what they used to be, and my hands are certainly less steady… but they can hold these reins!
This whole Dragonscale Expedition is quite the operation, and I’ve a mind to do my part!
As for the Azure Span, well… It reminds me of some of the best places I’ve explored!

Sounds more like he said that as a joke based on how he is a conservationist because he literally has difficulty shooting anything at distance due to the shakes and his diminished eyesight.
Dude is old and is likely physically unable to do much but he is still working in another way. He largely sends us to go kill dangerous animals to protect the expedition. His job is probably just more administrative sort and we have basically seen a natural progression of that over the years.
Also? Probably isn’t fun to challenge people to kill 30 animals first when you have difficulties hitting the broad side of the barn because you got old.

It is.
Most actual hunters are animal lovers. My family is big into it. They hunt for food, and the spot just comes with it. We ate everything we got.
Dad also just recently retired from hunting.
Still spends his time watching animal documentaries.
It’s actually entirely in character for Hemet. People like OP aren’t a part of the the hunting community. The dudes here roasted trophy hunters too. You can take your trophy, but you better be doing something with the rest.

except this isn’t real life, and Hemet has not ever shown any personality of being a conservationist.
Hemet has slowly become more and more mellow over the years if you’ve been reading the quest text, it’s not like he’s been suddenly lobotomized.
