Why Tuesday ?

Why does reset have to be on Tuesday? Why can’t it be Monday?

I’d like to have my wow weak synchronized with my regular / work weak
It probably goes back to the days when Tuesday was maintenance day, not just reset day, and maintenance meant at least a few hours of downtime, not just 5 minute server restarts in the middle of the night.

Tuesday is pretty typically a low day for activity in -any- game, so it makes sense to try and do maintenance on that day. This helps with actual patches as well, as there will be less load on the servers due to the lower amount of active users at that time.

Microsoft also historically has done their patching for Windows on Tuesdays, so that's something lots of people were already familiar with that worked its way into everything. Likely the reasoning for Microsoft choosing Tuesday was much the same.

Additionally:
Sat/Sun are out because a lot of devs don't work weekends, Blizz included.

Monday is out because if there is any work to be done leading up to maintenance/patch/release, that would likely mean having to work over the weekend to get it ready, which Blizz does not do.

Friday is out because if anything goes wrong, you're now negatively affecting players on peak days (Fri-Sat-Sun), rather than low days (Tues-Thurs).

The first "available" day of the week with little risk is Tuesday.

Even with today’s technology?

The servers have way more stress on patch and xpac launches than a regular Monday and they do fine.

We should change reset / patch / launch day to Monday
Don't you people work for a living? Monday is the day you gather your strength to face the rest of the work week. If you're an overachiever, you could start a big project on Monday, I guess, but finish it? That's madness. Pretty soon you'd be working Sundays. O.O
Added some more bits to the first post that could potentially favor Tuesday. Granted that's less about "reset" and more about patching -- but it does make some amount of sense to have reset day and patch day be the same day.

At the end of the day I'm sure they -could- have reset on Monday, but there's no real incentive to do so.

>> Remembers the first couple days of BfA in which Stormsong was entirely unplayable because the server was pooping itself.

Because they schedule it on Tuesday, where THEY work.
Microsoft created the concept of Patch Tuesday and subsequently other companies did the same thing.

It is just the standard to do stuff like this on Tuesday in the United States. I am sure it gives them time to work on any problems that come from after the release of any update. And you get that Monday to get stuff in order prior to it.

WEAK WOW is now everyday of the WEEK you lucky person!
Probably because they use Monday each week to touch base on everything that may need addressing with reset. Get their ducks in a row, and ready the next morning. At this point, there are probably other scheduling matters internally that developed from Tuesday reset as well, and changing the day would mean a lot of re-organization accordingly.

Weak? Yes, your whine is indeed weak
From what I understand, it's considered to be the day with the lowest concurrency to the game.

They do try and minimize the impact they have on the players with these things when possible. Tuesday is the day when the fewest of us are connected. At least it was. I would be interested in knowing if it's still the case and if part of that is that the world has been conditioned to Tuesday being maintenance day.
If you play EU I believe their reset day is Wednesday!
For US Server shutdowns.
Friday/Monday - have the most US national most holidays
Tuesday makes the most sense, how many holidays fall on a Tuesday every year.

Yeah, they picked Tuesday because it had the lowest activity (which may have been relative back then). It's possible it's still the same today as everyone understands now that Tuesday is a no-go kind of day, but it wouldn't surprise me if that had changed a lot or a little.

Also their maintenance capabilities has gotten astronomically better. Back in my day you waited for servers to come back up only to for them to extend maintenance for another hour 15 minutes prior to when it's supposed to come back up. And then repeat that 1-5 more times depending on the week.
I prefer tuesday to monday - as someone pointed out a lot of holidays on monday anyway.
Does a week's work make one weak?

Nah.
If it was Monday, I'd be way more tempted to call in sick for work.
