Why timegate Creation Catalyst and LFR

We’ve heard Ion mention how he wants loot to feel meaningful again, getting that piece of loot should be special. Well, I’ll tell you what’s not special; getting 424 gloves from the vault which you can’t equip because you will break 4-set. That’s not meaningful Ion!

also, is there an actual legitimate reason why LFR is gated? raid opened on the 9th May for all but people who do LFR can’t see the full raid until the reset starting June 20? a month and a half delay? this ties in to the campaign quests which, since they weren’t available this reset, I am assuming aren’t going to be available until June 20 as well.

Ion and the rest of the WoW Devs: this isn’t meaningful gameplay. Locking access to raid bosses and the catalyst is not fun, it’s stupid and frustrating. There is no reason for either of them to not be fully available right now. Please change it for next patch.

Just continuing the theme of disrespecting their customers.

To incentivize people to actually do the content before full faceroll mode is active.

And what’s that about gloves? You act as if that brief period when there weren’t tier sets wasn’t literally the only time when people didn’t have to consider when they wanted to break one bonus for another… What, do you expect to jump straight from 4piece to 4piece on the 2nd week of the raid?

Just sim yourself, and if the higher item level on gloves is better than your tier bonus, which the sim will show you, then equip them. If not, then just put them aside for later. Why make a big deal about not being able to equip, if equipping wouldn’t be an actual upgrade?

I’m all for time-gating LFR but it should be 1 wing a week.

It’s only to artificially incentivize players to go into normal and up.

There is nothing in LFR that justifies it lagging behind a month. The gear is bad and it’s significantly harder to get due to everyone being able to roll need on it.

If the reason is for “story” then most people who care about that will just end up waiting for the story cinematics to show up on Wowhead and Youtube.

But really, everyone knows why. It’s because they want you in normal and to increase the metrics on raiding and for the players that don’t want to do normal, well then now they have the option of staying subbed for 3 extra weeks which helps their MAUs.

Gotta keep casuals who play for the story subbed somehow :joy:

You can understand most of the decisions made by devs by asking a single question…Will doing this make more money or less money?

So that progression is allowed to exist for LFR players. The content is designed to be a free win (determination), so progression has to be added in other ways.

If you want LFR to be released faster, delete determination and bring back the cata system where you need the achievement for 1 wing to be able to queue for the next.

If you would like to see it faster, do normal

Otherwise, wait

The choice is yours.

that’s still missing my main point. LFR is timegated, and so the story quests are also timegated because LFR is. which is garbage

They need to open LFR on day one but it needs to not drop any gear. LFR should only reward legacy transmog tokens, pet charms, and toys.

There isn’t a valid reason, just Ion’s insistence on crapping all over anyone who doesn’t subscribe to the " Group finder is life" mantra he lives by. Just because a few try-hards would feel “forced” to step foot in content so clearly below them for a 0.2% percent throughput increase shouldn’t mean a whole group of players should suffer. Combatting false “burnout” should be player problem, not a game design problem. :hear_no_evil::see_no_evil::speak_no_evil:

I’m certain I will never consider loot in WoW to be meaningful ever, so he’s already lost that battle for me. “Meaningful” for roughly six months, if you’re lucky.

Forced “progression” for us LFR-heroes would be served just fine by 1 wing/week. And I’m willing to bet that far fewer of us would quit after “completing LFR” than true raiders who quit after getting AOTC. :speak_no_evil::see_no_evil::hear_no_evil:

This might be a point, if we didn’t have data that indicates that heroic raiders outnumber LFR heroes by a noticeable margin (~51.6% of people who full cleared vault did it on heroic or mythic).

This isn’t even the case anymore. LFR loot is essentially useless.

It’s gated to mimic a sense of progression.

Waiting a few weeks is not suffering.

What story quest? Even after defeating Sarkareth in the raid, “A Flame, Extinguished” is still unavailable for completion. Everything until that last chapter is available outside the raid.

that’s my point. I believe that the quest has been delayed until LFR players get the final wing, which is June 20. which is stupid. just release it all at once! or even week by week if they absolutely must. 2 weeks per wing is stupid.

Yeah, was disappointed wing 2 didn’t start yesterday

it’s easy. Because game is subscription based. Longer timegate - more subs.
