Why time gate renown, again?

In legion, getting path finder for flying was frustrating. Not because of the amount of requirements, but more so because Blizzard literally stop you from progressing in the form of daily q’s for rep with each faction.

In Shadowlands we got renown capped, and it left me on launch with pretty much nothing else to do than M+. Naturally, I stopped playing because of nothing to do. I came back towards the end of Shadowlands when 95% of the content was out, and renown wasn’t capped. That experience was so much better than launch, as the more effort I put in, the more I got back. Whether it be gear, or story progression wise.

Dragonflight, once again we are effectively time gated through renown again to be able to progress the story line. WHY? Why am I being punished for wanting to play the game… I bought the expansion for full price, so why am I not getting the full expansion and instead being drip fed?

Again, I’m in this predicament where the only realistic thing to do is M+ and I’m already getting bored.

STOP TIMEGATING.

But can’t you just grind up renown… right now?

Grind-gate is not the same thing as time-gate.

No. There are no more activities to earn renown for me currently for Valdraken except perhaps those keys, but they’re practically pointless doing.

As far as I can tell, it’s just like Shadowlands all over again where I have to wait until reset to get new content.

You can grind the rare mobs near the Obsidian Citadel, as well as participate in the Dragonbane Keep Siege which rewards both rep, and items for turn-in.

It’s not much rep, but you can grind it if you want.

This is what players wanted. They hated having to login everyday or they would feel like they were behind. They want to finish and be done for the week. It takes more time but they don’t want to grind.

You can’t really grind something that is gated 2 hours apart each time. The keys, as I mentioned previously are almost pointless due to how very little rep they reward, vs how long it takes to get key frames.

I’m not talking about keys. Those are for Wrathion or Sabellian. Killing most of those rares reward 50 rep per kill as you kill them.

So it’s not really time-gated, you have options to gain more renown. You’re just choosing to not take advantage of them.

I’ll go try kill some rares, but even then we’re at the mercy of spawn times and other player groups being up. But for example, I’ve got to get from renown 14 to 19 with valdraken by just killing rares… ? Do you know how much rep that is? I’m good to grind hard, but that’s just insanity

put your money where you mouth is. you’re right, the xpacs are just better in their final seasons.

but people buy and play more at the start so they’re likely not to care until it hits them in the pocket book, even still, they probably wont notice why. they’ll just chalk it up to there not being enough politically correct bs in the game.

What time gate? players already have max renown for all factions.

Yeah, who used exploits which have since been nerfed

Yes. 12500 rep. At 50 rep per kill, that’s 250 rare kills.

I didn’t say it was going to be an easy grind and only take a couple hours.

It’s meant to be low enough you don’t feel pressured into doing it, but as an option if you really want it.

It shouldn’t have to be this way though. Why strangle player progress? Why is it so hard for those who wish to progress and put the effort in are having to resort to things such as this?

You have a ton of old reps you didn’t grind up. Feel free to knock those out in the meantime.

There are no hard caps that could be called a gate. There are just diminishing returns on time investment.

If Blizzard allows people to earn rep as fast as the can/want the no lifers would be fully maxed out in reputations right now. They aren’t stopping you, they are stopping them.

Old expansion content is not the antidote to a lack of new expansion content. WoW has plenty of ‘content’ to do, but what I’m only interested in is Dragonflight content. I don’t think that’s unreasonable.

It sounds like the rewards for the effort aren’t worth the grind to you.

That’s not a bad thing. I’m not grinding rares for 50 rep a kill either.

It’s something personal, and that’s up to the player to decide for themselves.
