Why the (UI) Outcry?

Are the people that are complaining been using mods or something? Because I fail to see any major change going from the default before to the default now. Certainly not enough to warrant quitting over. I just logged in for the first time since the pre-patch about 15 minutes ago. Based on the forum outcry, I was actually dreading coming in and having to adjust everything for an hour before I can even get going.

Well, I found hardly any issues with the new UI. By default, everything seems close to where it was, minus the character and enemy bars now in the center (which I assume I can move if I want). Sure, there was a new dungeon icon, and after running the horseman, it took me literally 1 second to adjust my muscle memory of going to the upper left to leave the dungeon. I basically logged in, selected the starter build for talents, and queued up the horseman dungeon. No learning curve to get going and I can fiddle with the UI and talents over time.

The only “issue” I’ve come across so far was I had to move the item popup tag and adjust my chat window (which has to be done on any newly created character anyway). I’m just baffled about the complaints. If anything, this new UI is going to be way better, as I now have freedom to edit it at a future date when I feel like diving into it.

Whether it is actually “fully” customizable or not, that is another question for another day.

People don’t like new things.
Have you ever seen “2001: A Space Oddity?”

Main outcry on the forums seems to be they liked their default UI and now are thrown off by the new one and don’t want to bother setting it up since it previously required no effort. That said forum is a minority of the player base so it’s not like it’s a huge amount of people upset.

But that’s the thing… by default, it was pretty close to the prior default. I didn’t have to adjust a thing to get going. Maybe I could have entered editing mode and moved the character and enemy portraits back and moved the dungeon eye up to the minimap. But everything seemed pretty close.

I’ve been working customer service type jobs for the past 20 years. I work the check in desk for an urgent care right now, and I’m going to let you in on a little secret.

There are a lot of stupid whiney, people out there that complain about the most insignificant things. They want something their way, and their way only, and if its not EXACTLY what they want they get very irrationally angry.

They are the type that if you give them a free beer they will complain its not their favorite brand. There’s no pleasing these people and its best to just ignore them.

My biggest issue is there is apparently no way to get rid of the little dragons bracketing the default toolbars (if there is, please let me know lol).

I dunno, man. I love it so far. The basic default is lovely. Has such a nice clean feel to it. I’ve just now in the last five minutes dug into some of the customisation. They’ve done an awesome job. Not just in the range of options but how they present it and how intuitive it is. A+ from me!

click o the default toolbar and its one of the checkbox options. It only shows the option on action bar 1.

Can I interest you in a :carrot: instead of a :cookie: doc?

There is! It’s listed as an checkbox like bar art I think

Ooh, I actually like that! I have no beef with the gryphons, but getting rid of them does look nice.

Apparently change is hard for people. As someone that has used elvui for years i love the new ui. Can delete a couple addons now

But is that worth quitting over? (you don’t sound like the type to quit over that though).

I’m hoping someone that has a huge issue and wants to quit over it can point me to why, when I didn’t see any major changes to the default layout.

i have been using the standard blizz ui since BC. when i logged on half my stuff was missing or in the wrong place. The bags and icons on the right hand bottom of the screen were so small I couldn’t even read them. cast bar was hidden behind all the bars, to list a few. i had to spend hours trying to get stuff back to the way they were. ya I’m not good at this kind of stuff so switching this stuff all around took me a long time and i still don’t like the feel of it.

i know for people who use a ton of addons for ui this might be a great change. i even like that they finally added some additional button bars. but being someone who has played since BC using the standard ui, its a mess. i had to watch videos on youtube just to figure basic stuff out. how are people who are playing this game for the first time supposed to figure half this stuff out.

i don’t mind change i just wish it was an option for people and not forced.

I was an Elv UI user for the longest time and dropped once Blizzard added this feature. It’s very nice to move everything. It took me a few minutes of tinkering around, but all in all, it is very simple to figure out. I just wish I could move my bag bar and micromenu. The patch notes did say more options would be coming. I imagine that once they get the kinks worked out we’ll have a very nice feature.

Maybe it is screen size and desktop resolution that is messing people up and making them mad? I’m on a 27", and nothing is too small and everything was in the correct space.

Though, I do think that Blizz should have left a non-customizable UI in the default of old for people. I can see that as something to be mad about.

Two issues that I don’t like…

  • UI scaling is in pixels now and not shown as a decimal with 1 being default scaling. Very annoying to work around in my head.
  • Cannot hide action/stance/game bars and only show them on mouseover. Was very useful for the action bars on the right and to hotkey abilities/macros/mounts/professions that you don’t need on the screen.

The last one alone will force me to continue using addons.

i like the new UI i just wish it would work properly…it isnt saving anything and keeps my portrait map and chat window highlighted. It basically makes the game unplayable for me…also the feature for talents to tell you which spells are missing…not working
